Surrounded by a "water curtain", highlighting the charm of Jiangnan, Hangzhou Asian Games handball hall is simple yet not simple
The handball event of the Hangzhou Asian Games will take place from September 24th to October 5th. As of now, a total of 22 male and female teams from 15 countries have participated, and will win 2 gold medals. The Hangzhou Asian Games Handball Gymnasium, located at the Xiaoshan Campus of Zhejiang Normal University, is one of the 12 newly built venues for this year's Asian Games. The appearance of "water curtains" hanging down and full of Jiangnan charm has attracted many people to stop.
The Hangzhou Asian Games Handball Hall consists of two parts: a warm-up hall and a competition hall. The overall appearance of the building is simple but not simple. Outside the main hall and the auxiliary hall, there are silk ribbon like decorations hanging slowly from the top of the hall and extending to the ground. These ribbons are called "water curtains", with a total of 308 strands. Each strand of "water curtain" is equipped with lights near the ground, and at night, the handball hall can project a specific pattern.
Zhu Yifeng, deputy director of the media of the venues of Zhejiang Normal University: During the design of our pavilion, the design team abstracted the image of "water curtain" from the Qiantang River water and Jiangnan silk, which is consistent with the lingering charm of Jiangnan and Hangzhou's urban temperament. It also symbolizes Hangzhou's image of rapid development in the Internet era and connectivity.

CCTV reporter Ren Meimei: In the second floor corridor outside the handball hall, vertical "water curtains" are not only decorations, but also have practical effects, like blinds, which can provide thermal insulation, reduce glare, and improve indoor visual comfort.
Handball originated in Denmark and is a ball game that combines the characteristics of basketball and football, with "chasing" and "competing" as its main features.
Handball requires athletes to run, jump, and throw on the field, with frequent physical contact and intense confrontation. For the audience at the Hangzhou Asian Games Handball Stadium, the intense competition here not only comes face to face, but also allows everyone to watch the game without blind spots.

There are 2244 seats on the court, each of which allows the audience to see a position 1 meter above the edge of the handball court, allowing athletes to have a clear view of every move. This effect comes from the asymmetric two sided stands built by the design team after extensive data research in the early stage. In addition, in order to achieve the goal of "no blind spots" for watching the competition, the entire venue also adopts a beam string structure design, with no pillars in the over 3000 square meters of the venue.
Zhu Yifeng, Deputy Commander of Venue Media Group at Zhejiang Normal University: Zhang Xianliang is a large-span structural design system, mainly composed of three parts: the main beam, support rods, and cables, with the characteristics of large span, light weight, and high stiffness. The venue designed with this structure has no pillars in the middle around it, so it is clean and refreshing, with a wide view, and saves building materials.
In addition, the venue was fully considered for post match utilization at the beginning of construction. The handball court is actually a wooden floor basketball court made according to the standards of the FIBA. During the Hangzhou Asian Games, dedicated PVC flooring was laid on the field, becoming a handball competition venue. After the Asian Games, the main hall can be transformed into basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, judo and other venues, and the auxiliary hall can also place various competition equipment and fitness equipment to meet the different needs of all teachers and students in the school.
