South Korean prosecutors have once again applied to arrest "actor" Liu Yaren, after a 4-month hiatus
According to Yonhap News Agency, on the 18th local time, South Korean prosecutors once again requested the arrest of actor Liu Yaren, who is suspected of repeated drug use, and officially initiated the identity confirmation process. This application is almost four months away from the court's rejection of Liu Yaren's initial arrest request.
According to reports, on the 18th, the Serious Case Investigation Department of Seoul's Central Local Prosecutors Office submitted a request to the court for the arrest of Liu Yaren and his friend Cui on suspicion of violating the Drug Administration Law, inciting others to destroy evidence, and hiding criminals.
The prosecutor's office stated that Liu Yaren is suspected of frequent illegal injections of drug-related medical drugs and illegally obtaining drug-related sleeping pills in the name of others, and using drugs overseas with Cui and others. Liu Yaren also shared real-time investigation information with accomplices and acquaintances, destroyed evidence, and helped accomplices flee overseas, seriously hindering judicial proceedings.
According to the prosecution, since 2020, Liu Yaren has injected propofol and other toxic drugs 200 times in multiple hospitals in Seoul under the pretext of receiving sleep anesthesia, with a value of up to 500 million Korean won. He illegally prescribed about 1000 sleeping pills in the name of others and in January 2023, he and four others in the United States smoked cocaine, marijuana, and other drugs.
Liu Yaren was once requested to be arrested during the police investigation, but the court made a decision not to arrest him on May 24th. Subsequently, the police transferred the case to the prosecution on June 9th. After three months of investigation, the prosecution found that Liu Yaren instigated acquaintances to destroy evidence and forced others to use marijuana in the United States and other places.
Formerly known as the "Three Great Film Emperors and Television Emperors"
In South Korea, Liu Yaren is both a box office guarantee and a representative of superb acting skills. Many people feel that he has a natural "movie face": single eyelids, thick lips, and a cold expression that reveals a complex temperament. He is not considered a handsome guy in the traditional sense, but it is precisely because of this that he is suitable for portraying life in various situations and will not be limited by his overly celebrity appearance.
At first, he started filming Korean dramas and began to venture into the film industry in 2011, rising to prominence. He worked with Kim Soo hyun, Song Chung kee, and others in the famous Korean movie street "Chung woo Road", similar to Hollywood.
In 2014, Liu Yaren "picked up the loopholes" and starred in Kim Soo hyun's abandoned script "Sorrow", winning the Blue Dragon Award for Best Actor at one of South Korea's three major film festivals, making his career even smoother.
Afterwards, he was nominated multiple times for the three major Korean film awards: the Big Bell Award, the Blue Dragon Award, and the Baeksang Art Award, and ultimately included all three awards, becoming the hottest male actor in this age group.
In 2018, Liu Yaren starred in the film "Burning" directed by Li Cangdong and adapted from the original novel of Haruki Murakami. This movie was nominated for the main competition section of the Cannes Film Festival and received a very high rating. He portrayed the repression, forbearance, and final outburst with great depth.
But outside of the camera, Liu Yaren, who received the award, has always had a complex appearance in public perception. He has a sensitive and introverted personality, some "social anxiety", but always challenges the public on certain issues.
