Recently, during an interview in the western part of Jilin Province, it was found that with the promotion and application of new agricultural technologies, the local grain yield and quality have significantly improved. The rice fields transformed from saline alkali land can also grow better mid to late maturing varieties of rice, helping to steadily advance the "billion pound grain" project in Jilin Province.

Li Hongcheng, Director of the Black Soil Protection Monitoring Center in Zhenlai County, has been promoting the technology of synchronized deep lateral fertilization for rice machine insertion. "By utilizing this technology, precise fertilization can be applied near the rice roots while transplanting, reducing the amount of chemical fertilizer used," said Li Hongcheng.
Compared with 2013, after governance, a large area of saline alkali land in Gashigen Township, Zhenlai County, Baicheng City, Jilin Province has become fertile land.

Mao Yinhua, the head of Lihua Family Farm, recalled that in 2015, he contracted 150 hectares of saline alkali land to be transformed into farmland. But due to a lack of technology, the rice yield is very low, with a loss of over 3 million yuan in the first three years. Later, experts from the Jilin Academy of Agricultural Sciences brought him scientific knowledge and salt alkali tolerant rice varieties. "Last year, I was able to produce 8000 kilograms of grain per hectare here, earning over 600000 yuan," said Mao Yinhua.

In the past, due to insufficient accumulated temperature, only early maturing rice varieties could be planted on saline alkali land in western Jilin, resulting in poor rice quality and low prices. For this reason, Jilin Academy of Agricultural Sciences proposed to use large and medium-sized greenhouses instead of small greenhouses, to pre harvest, raise seedlings, and transplant seedlings, effectively solving the problem of low rice yield, making it possible to plant mid to late maturing rice varieties with good rice quality and high yield on saline alkali land.

According to calculations, in the past five years, a series of salt alkali tolerant rice varieties and new technologies for cost saving, efficiency increasing, and simplified cultivation promoted by the Jilin Academy of Agricultural Sciences have been applied in the salt alkali land of western Jilin, with a cumulative application area of 765000 hectares, an increase of 510.8 kilograms per hectare, and an added output value of 1.016 billion yuan.
