Shenyang sounds 14 warning bells! At 9:18, the entire city sounded the air defense alarm. Today
This year marks the 92nd anniversary of the outbreak of the September 18 Incident. On the morning of the 18th, the "Do Not Forget September 18" bell ringing alarm ceremony was held at the Ruins Memorial Square of the September 18 History Museum in Shenyang, Liaoning Province.
The Memorial Square of the September 18 History Museum is solemn and dignified, with a huge calendar shaped stone tablet covered in bullet holes. The time was fixed on September 18, 1931, and representatives from all walks of society lined up in a neat line facing the Memorial.
At around 9 a.m., the ceremony began amidst the resounding national anthem. In front of the ruins monument, people lined up neatly and solemnly. 14 cadres and representatives of the masses jointly pushed the clock and struck the alarm bell. The sound of 14 bells echoed in the air, symbolizing the arduous 14 year anti Japanese war journey of the Chinese people. At 9:18 am, air defense sirens were sounded throughout Shenyang, sounding for 3 minutes. Cars stopped driving on multiple streets, sirens sounded, and pedestrians stood in awe. At the same time, the other 13 cities in Liaoning also sounded air defense alerts, with trains, ships, and cars honking to remind people to remember history and not forget national humiliation.
