Russian President's Press Secretary: Russia is concerned about the tense situation in the Nakar region
On September 14th, the press secretary of the Russian President, Peskov, stated that Russia is concerned that the tension in the Naka region has not eased, and some areas may even be on the rise. The Russian side will continue to maintain contact with Armenia and Azerbaijan regarding the Naqa situation and call on both sides to exercise restraint.
Earlier on the 14th, Armenian Prime Minister Pashnian said that the situation in the Naka region was very tense. On the same day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan stated that the main factor affecting regional peace and stability was Armenia's refusal to recognize Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Naqa region is located in the southwest of Azerbaijan, and its residents are mostly Armenians. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, war broke out between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the issue of ownership of the Naka region. Although the two countries reached a comprehensive ceasefire agreement in 1994, they have been in a hostile state due to the Naqa issue, and armed conflicts have occurred from time to time.
