Russian President Putin Meets with Wang Yi
On September 20, 2023 local time, Russian President Putin met with Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, in St. Petersburg.
Since then, the important consensus reached by both sides has been implemented one by one, and positive results have been achieved in exchanges and cooperation in various fields such as economy, trade, culture, and sports between the two countries. Since the beginning of this year, Russia has overcome the impact of unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States and the West, and its economy has begun to resume growth, with various functions functioning normally. We look forward to strengthening planning and deepening practical cooperation with China. Russia highly appreciates and actively supports the initiative of jointly building the "the Belt and Road", opposes the distortion and denigration of the initiative, and is willing to strengthen the docking between the Eurasian Economic Union and the initiative to promote the process of regional integration.
With the joint efforts of all parties in Russia and China, the BRICS countries have successfully expanded their membership this year, promoting BRICS cooperation to a new level. The Russian side is willing to maintain close coordination with China under multilateral frameworks such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the BRICS mechanism, resist unipolar hegemony and factional confrontation, and uphold international fairness and justice.

During this visit to Russia, I comprehensively reviewed the cooperation between the two countries in various fields with Secretary Patrushchev and Foreign Minister Lavrov. I am willing to work with the Russian side to follow the important consensus of the two heads of state, enhance strategic mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, and further consolidate the public opinion and social foundation of China Russia friendship.
Faced with the ever-changing and intertwined international situation, world multipolarity is accelerating, economic globalization is moving against the trend, unilateral actions are unsustainable, and hegemonism is unpopular. As permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, China and Russia bear important responsibilities in promoting world development and progress. Both sides need to strengthen multilateral strategic cooperation, safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of both countries, and make new efforts to promote the development of the international order towards fairness and reasonableness.
Both sides also exchanged views on the current international and regional situation. On the Ukraine issue, Putin reiterated Russia's willingness to resolve the issue through dialogue and negotiation.
