Residents evacuated, foreign media: An explosion in a train carriage containing perchloric acid in the United States
According to a report by Russian satellite news agency on September 15th, the fire department of North Palet, Nebraska, USA, announced that a train carriage containing perchloric acid exploded and caught fire locally on September 14th. The local government is evacuating nearby residents to prevent toxic smoke from damaging their health.
The fire department of North Palet City released a message on social media X stating, "At around 12:10, a train carriage of Pacific Union Railroad exploded at Bailey train station... Emergency evacuation of surrounding residents is currently underway."
The New York Post, citing a spokesperson for the railway department, reported that the train was filled with perchloric acid, which is used to manufacture explosives and various drugs. The railway department stated that the cause of the explosion is currently unclear, and no personnel were injured or any vehicles derailed.
The report states that firefighters and rescue workers are working at the scene of the accident. At present, the fire has been brought under control and professional personnel are monitoring the development of the situation.
On February 3rd this year, a freight train operated by Norfolk Southern Railroad Company derailed while passing through East Palestine, Ohio, causing 50 carriages, including 5 carriages carrying hazardous materials such as vinyl chloride, to derail or be damaged, resulting in serious environmental impacts.
