Ren Zhengfei: We have basically established our own platform
Recently, the International College Student Programming Competition Foundation released a summary of recent conversations between Huawei President Ren Zhengfei and the ICPC Foundation, coaches, and gold medal winners on its official website. Ren Zhengfei stated that sanctions are indeed pressure for Huawei, but pressure is also a driving force. "After four years of hard work and the hard work of 200000 employees, we have basically established our own platform. In the future, we may not operate on the same basis as the platforms in the United States, but connectivity is certain," he said.
When it comes to basic research, Ren Zhengfei said that in today's era, the boundary between science and technology is getting closer, and the time for science to transform into technology is getting shorter. If we wait until universities fully understand the theory before proceeding with technological development, there will be no first mover advantage or competitiveness. "So we have also begun to attach importance to basic theoretical research ourselves, investing approximately $3 to $5 billion annually in basic theoretical research. We work closely with universities to study these seemingly 'useless sciences' in an embedded manner.".
Ren Zhengfei said that the development of the world cannot be separated from the progress of technology and the exchange of talents. Faster speed and better talents are the foundation of national prosperity. Over the years, Huawei has turned the tide with its R&D team consisting of over 7000 foreign scientists and experts, over 13800 international students, and over 100000 outstanding Chinese students. Ren Zhengfei stated that Huawei is willing to collaborate with the academic community to cultivate outstanding talents in the field of information, but will not monopolize talents. After training, learning, and growing at Huawei, these talents will return to their respective countries in the future, which is also beneficial for the revitalization of the information industry in various countries.
On the 20th, at the Huawei All Connected Conference, Huawei Vice Chairman Meng Wanzhou stated that Huawei is committed to building a solid computing foundation in China and building a second choice for the world. "We will continue to enhance the integration capability of 'soft and hard core edge cloud', make a thick 'black soil', and meet the diverse AI computing power needs of various industries. Meng Wanzhou said that Huawei will fully leverage its comprehensive advantages in computing, storage, network, energy and other fields, change the traditional server stacking mode, and focus on building artificial intelligence clusters with a system architecture innovation approach, achieving integrated design of computing power, transportation power, and storage power, breaking through computing power bottlenecks, and providing sustainable and surging computing power.".
