Recruit participants!, Human brain chip implantation
According to foreign media reports, on the 19th local time, Neuralink, a human brain chip implantation company under Elon Musk, stated that the company has obtained approval from an independent review committee to begin the first human clinical trial of human brain chip implantation and is currently recruiting participants.
According to Forbes magazine website, Neuralink is committed to developing a fully implantable wireless brain computer interface that allows paralyzed patients to directly control devices through their brains. Previously, Neuralink had conducted animal experiments and obtained approval from the US Food and Drug Administration in May to conduct clinical studies on humans.
According to the report, Neuralink is currently recruiting participants who are at least 22 years old and have reliable caregivers due to cervical spinal cord injury or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis causing quadriplegia to participate in the trial. It is expected to take approximately 6 years to complete the experiment.
Reuters reported that according to its employees, Neuralink had previously hoped to obtain 10 participant slots, but the US Food and Drug Administration raised concerns about safety issues. It is currently unclear how many quotas have been finally approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.
According to the report, experts say that even if brain computer interface devices are proven to be safe for human use, Neuralink will still need more than ten years to obtain commercial usage licenses.
According to previous reports, in recent years, Musk has publicly developed ambitious plans for Neuralink. At the end of 2022, Musk stated that he had full confidence in the device developed by the company and was even willing to implant it into his child's brain.
