Putin will not be arrested. I am the President of Brazil
According to Reuters on September 9th, Brazilian President Lula stated that if Russian President Putin attends the G20 meeting in Rio de Janeiro next year, he will not be arrested in Brazil.
Lula said in an interview on the sidelines of the G20 summit in New Delhi that he will invite Putin to participate in next year's event. Lula also said that he plans to attend the BRICS meeting in Russia before the Rio Summit.
Lula said, "I believe Putin can easily travel to Brazil. What I can say is that I am the President of Brazil, and he will not be arrested when he comes to Brazil."
According to reports, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Putin in March this year, accusing him of "war crimes of illegally expelling hundreds of children from Ukraine.". Russia denies that its military has committed war crimes or forcibly taken away Ukrainian children.
According to reports, Putin has been absent from international conferences multiple times, and he did not attend the G20 summit held in New Delhi. Instead, he sent Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to attend.
According to reports, Brazil is a signatory to the Rome Statute that established the International Criminal Court. Lula's office did not immediately respond to the comment request.
