Pudong International Airport Satellite Hall and MRT System Engineering won the "Zhan Tianyou Award"
Recently, at the 110th anniversary commemoration conference of the China Civil Engineering Society, the 2023 Academic Annual Conference of the China Civil Engineering Society, and the 19th China Civil Engineering Zhan Tianyou Award ceremony held in Beijing, the Shanghai Pudong International Airport Satellite Hall and Rapid Transit System Engineering, invested and constructed by Shanghai Airport Group and undertaken by Shanghai Construction Engineering Group, won the 19th China Civil Engineering Zhan Tianyou Award. This is the highest honor in scientific and technological innovation of engineering construction projects in the field of civil engineering in China, after the project won the highest construction project quality award in China, the Luban Award, in 2020.
The China Civil Engineering Zhan Tianyou Award was jointly established by the China Civil Engineering Society and the Beijing Zhan Tianyou Civil Engineering Science and Technology Development Foundation in 1999. It is the most influential and authoritative scientific and technological innovation award in the field of civil engineering in China. The award selection fully reflects "innovation", "iconic" and "authority", and based on the selection principles of "small quantity, high quality, and standardized procedures", the award-winning projects are ultimately selected.
The satellite hall of Pudong Airport is located on the south side of two terminal buildings, with a building area of 620000 square meters and an I-shaped shape. It is the largest single satellite hall in the world. The main structure of the satellite hall adopts a reinforced concrete frame structure, the roof of the central hall adopts a steel truss structure, and the boarding bridge adopts a steel structure. The total amount of steel used is about 35000 tons, which is equivalent to the total weight of the steel structures of the three major bridges in Shanghai, Xupu, Yangpu, and Nanpu.
Due to the fact that the project is organized and constructed under non-stop navigation conditions, in order to minimize the impact of construction on operation, the project is subject to phased acceptance and phased use. The project has used a number of technological innovations and high-tech applications, such as the use of complex pit group construction technology adjacent to the operating apron, innovative research and application of construction control technology for space free-form curved triangular steel roof, innovative application of reverse construction technology for large suspended ceiling with profiled hyperboloid, the first large-scale application of fair faced concrete in domestic terminal buildings, innovative research and solution to the problems of shield tunneling under the apron and taxiway in operation, etc.
The satellite hall and the terminal are seamlessly connected through a passenger rapid transit system, which is the first airport airside rapid transit system in mainland China and the first to achieve 24-hour uninterrupted operation. To ensure the uninterrupted and normal operation of the metro system, the operation and maintenance team of Pudong Airport monitors the train operation in real time through the "vehicle networking" system, reasonably allocates operating train numbers, and formulates a graded inspection and maintenance plan. From 0:00 to 5:00 every day, the MRT system adopts a single line operation mode, and the suspended lines are arranged for inspection and maintenance of facilities and equipment; From 5:00 to 24:00, the metro system adopts a dual track operation mode, and the orbit between the terminal and the satellite hall is open simultaneously.

During this year's summer transportation, the MRT system has an average of 1026 trains per day, transporting over 5.5 million passengers and an average of over 90000 passengers per day, accounting for nearly half of the total number of passengers during the summer transportation period. With the continuous recovery of the aviation market, it is expected that the rapid transit system will transport more than 40 million passengers this year.
