The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposes to "improve the level of urban planning, construction, and governance, accelerate the transformation of the development mode of mega cities, implement urban renewal actions, strengthen urban infrastructure construction, and create livable, resilient, and smart cities.".

From Chongyong Street in Beijing, to three lanes and seven alleys in Fuzhou, Fujian, from memorial archway Street in Chaozhou, Guangdong, to Daijia Lane in Yuzhong, Chongqing... In practice, many places have taken the implementation of urban renewal action as a starting point, and made great efforts to embroider, improving the living environment, protecting cultural heritage, and expanding space resources. In recent years, more and more old streets and alleys have become new landmarks, becoming a window for people to appreciate the charm of the city. According to incomplete statistics, in 2022, 571 cities nationwide implemented 65000 urban renewal projects. The implementation of these projects has played an important role in improving urban functions, enhancing people's well-being, and promoting economic development.

Urban work should establish a systematic thinking approach, starting from the various elements, structures, functions, and other aspects that make up the city, conducting in-depth research and meticulous deployment of major issues related to urban development, and systematically promoting various aspects of work. Urban renewal work is a complex system engineering that not only aims to improve the spatial environment, but also takes into account multiple goals such as society, economy, culture, and governance. Taking the renovation work of Yuyuan Road in Shanghai as an example, in improving people's livelihoods, we will carry out remedial work such as renovating sanitation facilities to solve the practical problems that have long plagued residents; In terms of commercial development, we will help improve the operating conditions of more than 100 personalized small shops and achieve better integration of commercial and residential environments along the street; In terms of cultural protection, maximize the preservation of the original historical style and cultural elements; In terms of grassroots governance, residents and businesses have been widely mobilized to participate in community building and micro renewal plans... Over the years, through systematic planning and coordinated promotion, the old neighborhoods have achieved "reverse growth" and all aspects have been revitalized. It can be seen that promoting urban renewal through systematic thinking, ensuring coordination and complementarity among various tasks, is the only way to better integrate the achievements of urban renewal into social development and benefit people's lives.

To promote urban renewal with a systematic approach, we cannot simply focus on the key points. Benefiting people's livelihoods and solving the urgent and difficult problems of the people are essential to better meet their needs for a better life in urban renewal. Promoting development, while improving the living environment, promoting industrial parks to improve quality and efficiency through urban renewal, providing convenience for commercial activities, innovating consumption scenarios, and injecting more vitality into urban development. To promote humanistic values, we must balance the relationship between tradition and modernity, inheritance and development in urban renewal, and protect, excavate, and utilize historical and cultural relics in order to better continue the historical context of the city and revitalize the old urban area.
