Pride! These ships are all built by us
Comprehensive growth of multiple indicators, upgrading and upgrading of China's shipbuilding industry
On the Mediterranean, the world's largest tonnage luxury Ro/Ro passenger ship, "Mobi Fantasy", delivered in the first half of this year, is wandering around; On the bank of the Pearl River, thousands of miles away, No. 2 luxury ro ro passenger ship of the same scale is parked at the wharf and is waiting for delivery; Under the towering gantry, several large vessels such as luxury passenger and roll on/roll off ships, car transport ships, and semi submersible ships are being built simultaneously
Counting this year's shipbuilding achievements, Zhang Qinghuan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of China Shipbuilding Group Guangzhou Shipbuilding International, is full of pride: "In the first half of this year, the company's order acceptance increased by 90% year-on-year, and shipbuilding order production has been scheduled for 2028."

While delivering to customers with great enthusiasm, Guangzhou Shipbuilding International is just a microcosm of the rapid growth of orders from major Chinese shipyards this year. According to data from the China Shipbuilding Industry Association, from January to July 2023, the three major indicators of China's shipbuilding industry, including shipbuilding completion, new orders, and handheld orders, saw a comprehensive increase.
"The completion volume represents our strong shipbuilding ability, and new orders reflect our strong market ability. Holding orders means having a sufficient reservoir and a wide safety boundary," said Chen Jianrong, Secretary General of Guangdong Shipbuilding Industry Association.
"High end" has become a distinct symbol. In recent years, the number of construction and delivery of high-tech and high value-added ship types in China has significantly increased, and some technological fields have broken foreign monopolies. At the end of this year, China's first large cruise ship built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. is expected to be delivered. At that time, China will gather aircraft carriers, large liquefied natural gas transport ships, and large cruise ships - the three jewels on the crown of the shipbuilding industry.

Green upgrading is constantly advancing. Methanol, hydrogen energy, ammonia fuel... New green, energy-saving and environmentally friendly ships that have been delivered or are undergoing technological reserves by Chinese shipyards, involving various types of clean energy and continuously achieving new breakthroughs. At the shallow draft laboratory of Wuhan University of Technology, a new energy multi-purpose ship with a capacity of 3000 tons and full range use of hydrogen fuel power is being intensively developed. According to Pei Zhiyong, the head of the R&D team, a new energy ship can reduce carbon emissions by 3 tons per day. There are approximately 120000 ships in the entire Yangtze River waterway, which will reduce carbon emissions by 360000 tons per day.
On September 12, 2023, a 7000 car dual fuel vehicle transport ship built by Guangzhou Shipbuilding International was delivered.
Upgrade the "intelligent" chain. With the support of digital manufacturing, intelligent equipment, and other supporting facilities, China's shipbuilding industry chain is constantly expanding and improving, and its appearance is taking on a new look. Entering the VR interactive room of Guangzhou Shipbuilding International, the MBD 3D model application system is presenting the relevant processes of digital virtual shipbuilding with realistic effects. This system helps Guangzhou Shipbuilding International to eliminate paper-based drawings in the design, production, and other stages of unit module production and installation, and achieve digital virtual shipbuilding through 3D models.
The subdivision field is constantly expanding. At present, coastal areas in China such as Guangdong, Fujian, and Zhejiang are vigorously developing the "blue economy", which also poses more segmented demands for ship manufacturing and operation, such as marine aquaculture and offshore wind power operation and maintenance. In the first half of this year, CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Ship Co., Ltd. signed a contract for the construction of large-scale breeding factory ship, expanding the types of fishing equipment ships and forming new growth points.

"At present, our shipbuilding industry has evolved from a single product to full product coverage, integrating global supply chains, and the localization rate is constantly improving," said Chen Jianrong.
The shipbuilding industry with advanced construction capabilities further supports the continuous growth of the fleet size held by Chinese shipowners. According to data from Clarkson Research, as of August 2023, the fleet size held by Chinese shipowners has reached 249.2 million tons.
Zhang Shouguo, Executive Vice President of China Shipowners Association, introduced that shipping mainly serves trade, and the core reason for the growth of China's fleet size is the rapid development of China's economy and trade. Some analysts believe that this growth is not surprising given China's vast freight scale, developed shipbuilding industry, and increasingly active financial industry.

Li Yanqing, Secretary General of the China Shipbuilding Industry Association, stated that the close cooperation between China's shipbuilding industry, shipping industry, animal husbandry industry, and power industry is a collaborative research and development process. Vigorously promoting close cooperation and market sharing between the upstream and downstream of the shipbuilding industry will create more opportunities.
