Recently, a joint letter from parents of students at a school in Nanning, Guangxi, suspected of driving away bullies, quickly spread online and attracted widespread attention.
Middle school girls are bullied in school dormitories
Parents unite with dozens of parents to send joint letters
Request to drive away bullying students
The online bullying incident occurred at the well-known private school Yinhai Sanya School in Nanning. There were two letters circulating online, with a joint letter titled "A Letter to the Leaders of Yinhai Sanya School", requesting the school to drive away the bullies based on the bullying incident that occurred on the evening of September 12th. Dozens of red fingerprints were also attached at the end of the letters.
The other letter is titled "Let Campus Bullying Get Out of Sanya", signed by the parents of the bullied student Li. The content mainly describes the incident and accuses the bullies, and also repeatedly proposes to drive away the bullies.
According to the complaint letter from Li's parents, the bullying incident occurred on the evening of September 12th. Li, a student in Class 1 of junior high school, returned to the girls' dormitory. Yang, a student in the same dormitory, tore up Li's book and threw it into the bathroom. Li was beaten by Yang while trying to argue with her, causing her forehead to swell, blood to flow all over her face, and she fainted and fell to the ground. Later, the dormitory teacher arrived and pulled it apart, and even the dormitory teacher was kicked down during the process. The girl who hit Li also shouted that she was supposed to hit her classmate's temple and said that the teacher couldn't control her.
The complaint letter also stated that during the mediation process of the incident afterwards, the mother of the girl who hit someone rushed to school. During the process, she not only said, "If you hurt your daughter, won't you lose money? I can afford to pay as much as you want." She also posted on social media after the first mediation ended, claiming that her daughter was a "hexagonal female warrior" with full firepower. And this girl has repeatedly told her classmates that she beat up a male classmate in elementary school and transferred three times during elementary school.
After multiple attempts to contact the parties involved in the incident by Huashang Daily's Da Feng News reporter were unsuccessful, a local informant in Nanning was interviewed. According to the informant, the incident was widely shared and followed in the local WeChat group and social circle in Nanning, and the school and local education department are handling the matter.
The school responded that bullying incidents did indeed occur
But there are inaccuracies in the online joint letter
Is the joint complaint letter regarding the cyberbullying incident and the expulsion of bullies true?
"This is not in accordance with the facts." In an interview, a staff member of the school involved stated that many of the signatures in the joint letter were signed by others, and many of the handwriting was in the handwriting of one person, not signed by the parents themselves. Therefore, this information is not in accordance with the facts.
The staff member also stated that the bullying incident in the online information has occurred and is waiting for the authorities to handle it. Regarding the actions of Yang in the class that were reported online, the staff member stated that the complaint letter was exaggerated because Yang was also a normal student who enrolled in a school and has only recently started school, and the students are not very familiar with each other. She said that there will be an investigation by the education regulatory department in the future and a specific response will be given to everyone.
The reporter from Huashang Daily's Dafeng News subsequently contacted the office of the Education Bureau in Liangqing District, Nanning City. A person in charge clearly stated that she would not accept the interview, but she also stated that the bureau would officially release a notice on this matter.
Parents who participated in the signing:
The joint letter was voluntarily signed by our parents
"We are all voluntary signatories, even if we cannot sign in person due to time constraints, we are voluntarily authorized to sign." On the afternoon of September 20th, a parent who participated in the signing of the joint letter called a reporter from Huashang Daily's Dafeng News, stating that the content of the online joint letter is true, and even a few signatures at the end of the letter are a manifestation of everyone's voluntary will. "We also have an electronic signature with Li's parents."
The parent stated that the class where the incident occurred was one of the best two classes in the first grade of the school, known as the Heqing class, and the school should attach great importance to it. His child is a boy, and coupled with the short start of school, there is no interaction with the suspected assaulter. However, despite this, his child has also talked about this girl with his parents when he returned home. "The child said that the main fear in the class is girls, and there are also several boys who have seats closer to that girl who have been threatened by her." The parents said that this girl gives people a very strong feeling.
The parent claimed that the assault incident occurred on September 12th, and the girl's parent posted on social media the next day praising her daughter as a "hexagonal warrior," but now it seems that the relevant content has been deleted. According to this parent, there are claims that Yang, a girl who assaulted others, comes from a family with good economic conditions. "Later, in other class groups, some parents claimed that this girl had transferred to school three times during elementary school due to bullying her classmates.".
"We definitely hope that girl can leave this class or school." The parent said that he and his wife strongly agree with the demands in the joint letter. "I believe most parents in the class approve with both hands." The parent said that the children have entered a good class, and they hope that the children can have a healthy, upward, and safe living and learning environment. If she really doesn't want to leave this school, "but she can't live on campus anymore, and parents must accompany this child and strictly control it."
