Make the public and the economy pay a high price!, 【 Perspective 】 American Scholars: The rampant racism is poisoning the United States

On September 11th, China Daily News reported that an article by American scholar Becky Tallent was published on the Moscow Pullman Daily News website, criticizing the rampant racism that has poisoned the United States, causing high costs to the public and economy.
The article states that racism is an ugly term, and its consequences are even more ugly. In the United States, racism still exists and can bring various problems to people of color.
Human Rights Watch recently stated that the United States has failed to address the widespread issue of racism in the country. Although the United States signed the United Nations Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination in 1966, it has not always fulfilled its commitment to eliminate racial discrimination. Although the situation has improved, there are still various forms of implicit racial discrimination. This includes stereotypical impressions of people of color and ethnic minorities, public hostility, or aggressive messages using body language. Basically, those who are discriminated against will feel uneasy, excluded, ignored, suppressed, and rejected.
The American Psychological Association points out that any form of racial discrimination is harmful.
The article states that racial discrimination not only causes frustration, but also brings economic losses. Citigroup predicts that from 2000 to 2020, racial discrimination against African Americans alone will cause $16 trillion in economic losses to the United States. If no action is taken to reverse racial discrimination, an additional loss of $5 trillion will be incurred by 2025. Citigroup stated that the reasons for the losses include wage disparities, discriminatory loan practices, housing credit discrimination, and discrimination in higher education loans. This is only economic losses caused by discrimination against one racial group, and does not include Hispanics, Native Americans/Alaskan Indigenous peoples, Hawaiian Indigenous peoples/Pacific Islanders, Asians, Arabs, and mixed race or multi-ethnic groups.

The key to solving this problem is racial justice. John Allen, former chairman of the Brookings Institution, called on Americans to fight for racial justice for all minority groups, and it is unacceptable to remain silent and inactive against racism. Alan pointed out that countless unknown acts of racism are happening every day in the United States, and the spirit of America is threatened. Everyone has a responsibility to be part of the solution.
In July of this year, a joint poll conducted by USA Today and Suffolk University showed that 45% of Americans believe racism is a major issue. The Pew Charity Trust asked Americans how they perceive racism in August and found that 53% of respondents said that in places where racial discrimination does exist, people do not see it as a bigger problem.
The article concludes by stating that racism is ugly and causes enormous losses to both individuals and the economy. We should find ways to stop racism, or at least slow down its development. This is not easy, there are many people who cannot be convinced. At least finding ways to reduce the racist ideology that is currently poisoning the United States and causing high costs for all citizens is a worthwhile effort.
