Local | Women's Book | Taiwan
On September 20, Taiwan, China. com, Yongzhou reported that "there are thousands of beautiful articles, and we don't believe that there are strange articles in the world. Yongming women are good at learning, and they have been reading books to this day." There is a mysterious text that "hides" in a corner in the southwest of Hunan.
Here is a "small island" surrounded by water on all sides, with beautiful scenery and simple folk customs. It is named Puwei because it is located at the end of the Xiaoshui River, and is also described as the "Little Taiwan" of southern Hunan. On Puwei Island, the millennium old female script is quietly passed down here. It is passed down from woman to man, from old to young, from mother to daughter, and from generation to generation.

"Jiangyong's female script is a unique flower that flourishes in southern Hunan, rooted in the fertile soil of Yao and Han cultures."
As the only surviving female script discovered by humans to date, the origin of Jiangyong's female script is still a mystery. It has a long and slender shape, resembling mosquitoes and ants, with even strokes and a gentle feminine temperament.
N ü shu is a phonetic script that records the language of the local Yongming dialect. At present, there are about 700 female script characters collected through literature, each representing multiple meanings, usually written on edge paper, folding fans, embroidered on handkerchiefs, or woven on flower ribbons. Local women often gather together in a singing hall, doing needlework while singing, reading, and teaching female literature.
Local Yao women embroidered handkerchiefs with Jiangyong women's calligraphy.
The activity of women singing and learning women's books is called "reading paper", "reading fans", and "reading handkerchiefs", forming a unique culture of women's books.

The mysterious Jiangyong female script follows the custom of "burning books after death", so the female script is not widely circulated and faces an endangered situation. It was not until the 1980s that it was discovered in Shangjiangwei Town, causing a sensation worldwide. In 2005, it was listed in the Guinness World Records. In 2006, the custom of female calligraphy in Jiangyong was successfully included in the national intangible cultural heritage list.
Hu Xin, the inheritor of Jiangyong Women's Book, teaches female members of the journalist team how to read women's books at the Women's Book School.

Hu Xin, the inheritor of Jiangyong women's books, followed her master to Taiwan in 2011 for cross-strait cultural exchange, promotion, and exhibition of Jiangyong women's books. Twelve years have passed, and she spent nearly two months in Baodao. Every scene is still vivid in her mind. "Many local people come here with great enthusiasm for female writers, which makes me feel that Taiwanese compatriots are very concerned about the inheritance of Chinese culture."
Through that "Treasure Island trip", Hu Xin also came into contact with the cultural and creative field in Taiwan. "In the exchange with local craftsmen, it also gave me a lot of inspiration. We have been trying to use cultural and creative methods to let more people know about Jiangyong Women's Book, making this cultural heritage go global and become a world cultural heritage."

Taiwanese youth self media personality Li Yanru has been learning traditional erhu since childhood. Behind her fashionable appearance, she hides a "literary" heart. She followed Hu Xin seriously and wrote her name with a woman. Li Yanru said that coming to Jiangyong County with the interview team this time is her first time in Hunan. Previously, through social media, she only knew about the "internet celebrity" city of Changsha and came to the land of Sanxiang to feel the rich and profound cultural heritage of this land.
"What's even more unexpected is that this place can also give birth to unique female script characters, beautiful fonts, like dancing girls. That kind of beauty, which girl would not like it?" Li Yanru said.
Jiangyong women's books carry profound cultural connotations and unique humanistic charm, reflecting the call for independent wisdom and courage of women in past societies. They can be regarded as treasures of Chinese culture and wonders of world writing.
"I am deeply moved to see that the inheritors of Jiangyong's women's books love their own culture so much, sincerely and wholeheartedly dedicating themselves to inheriting this unique treasure of Chinese culture," said Zhao Yi, a journalist from Ettoday News Cloud, a new media outlet in Taiwan.

After the interview, Hu Xin wrote down the word "Taiwan" on the blackboard in meaningful women's script, "I hope the island of the motherland will go home quickly, and women compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits will inherit the culture of the old ancestors together." She looked forward to the day when she would have another opportunity to go to Taiwan and teach the island's "sisters" to sing women's script.
