Let the treasures of civilization be better passed down (on-site comments, cultural landmarks, inheritance and development ②), and take careful care of them
More actively promote the protection and utilization of cultural relics and the inheritance of cultural heritage, and explore the multiple values of cultural relics and heritage
"What exactly is the origin of Sanxingdui?" With strong curiosity, the reporter has visited the Sanxingdui site and museum multiple times for interviews. Among them, there are three unforgettable experiences.
In the spring of 2018, I arrived at Sanxingdui for an interview. The surrounding facilities of the site were built earlier, mainly archaeological excavation sites. Apart from some exhibition contents, there is no presentation of cultural heritage. However, the unique shape of cultural relics is enough to make people linger and forget to leave.
In the spring of 2021, interview at Sanxingdui again. In the archaeological greenhouse built on the site, archaeological work is proceeding in an orderly manner. The Sanxingdui Museum Cultural Relics Protection and Restoration Hall integrates the functions of cultural relics protection, restoration, and display in an open manner, exuding a strong sense of modern technology.
This year we have arrived at Sanxingdui again. The new museum has opened and it is difficult to obtain a ticket. In the exhibition space of 22000 square meters, collections are gathered and visitors come in droves. The treasures of ancient Shu shine brightly in the starry sky at the source of Chinese civilization.
From hardware upgrades for archaeological excavation and research protection, to software optimization for displaying achievements and cultural relics, the veil of the Sanxingdui Site has been gradually lifted, largely thanks to protection and restoration.
The appearance of cultural relics reflects the form of civilization and, to a certain extent, reflects the technological level of their era. Traveling through thousands of years and perceiving the vitality of civilization also requires modern science and technology. The new round of excavation at the Sanxingdui Site is being carried out in the context of interdisciplinary collaboration. The analysis instrument room in the Sanxingdui Museum Cultural Relics Protection and Restoration Museum is equipped with advanced instruments such as scanning electron microscopy, laser Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, etc., which can detect and analyze cultural relics, providing scientific basis for cultural relic restoration. In order to continuously improve the level of restoration, cultural heritage personnel have researched new processes, applied new materials, developed new tools, and utilized AI technology and 3D scanning digital restoration technology to achieve technological and efficient restoration, synchronously generating "digital cultural relics". Modern technology has revitalized the appearance of cultural relics, revitalized cultural heritage, and injected a continuous stream of new vitality into preserving the imprint of civilization.
The protection and restoration of cultural relics are not only about objects, but also about people. A cultural relic, especially one with incomplete or damaged parts, undergoes time accumulation from excavation to restoration and shaping, which is also a test for cultural relic restoration workers. Guo Hanzhong, who grew up near the Sanxingdui site and worked in cultural relic restoration for more than 30 years, devoted half of his life to his passion for cultural relic restoration.
Indeed, the restoration of cultural relics is both mundane and challenging, and requires patience and perseverance. At present, there are tens of thousands of newly excavated cultural relics in Sanxingdui that need to be protected and restored. More professionals are needed to devote themselves to them, promote the spirit of slow work and meticulous work, and work hard for a long time. I believe that through the relay and inheritance of generations of archaeologists who have "shoveled the Heavenly Book" and the careful care of generations of cultural relics protectors who have "sat on cold benches", the cultural treasures will definitely be better presented to the world and passed down to future generations.
Entering the new campus of Sanxingdui Museum, from a distance, there are two glass curtain walls embedded in the curved buildings that resemble eyes. These "eyes" look in the direction of the excavation site, as if there is a dialogue between ancient and modern times. The archaeological achievements of the Sanxingdui Site are well-known in the world, showcasing the achievements of civilization over 4000 years ago. People are looking forward to approaching and perceiving it. When the wind of the Bronze Age gently brushes across the land of Sichuan and thousands of miles of mountains and rivers, and enters the "Sanxingdui: Sleeping for Thousands of Years and Awakening to Surprise the World" theme exhibition, let us hold our breath and listen to the "talk" of cultural relics, and enjoy the feast of cultural inheritance.
