Lay the foundation for green and low-carbon Asian Games
65 Asian Games venues and office spaces all use green electricity, prefabricated buildings and environmentally friendly materials are widely promoted, solid waste sources are reduced and resources are utilized... As an important concept for hosting the Hangzhou Asian Games, green and low-carbon have gradually become a reality from vision to action.
Let the wind from the northwest light up the lights of the Hangzhou Asian Games. Photoelectric and wind power from Xinjiang, Qinghai, Gansu and other regions are continuously transported to the Asian Games competition area through ultra-high voltage lines. "We have signed a tripartite agreement with the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee and State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company to carry out green electricity trading, with a total electricity output of 621 million kilowatt hours, which is equivalent to reducing the use of standard coal by about 76300 tons." said Zhuang Xiaodan, Director of the Trading Department of Zhejiang Power Trading Center.
The Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee also hired 12 business backbones from State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company as "zero carbon" engineers. Not long ago, Ni Yang, a zero carbon engineer born in the 1990s, came to Hangzhou Asian Games Village to provide a "carbon reduction diagnosis book" and a "carbon bill". These diagnostic criteria come from the "dual carbon brain" pioneered by State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company. "By leveraging the smart platform, the energy consumption data of various equipment in the venue can be viewed in real-time." Ni Yang introduced that once the data is abnormal, they can detect it immediately and propose carbon reduction plans.
Since serving as a "zero carbon" engineer, Ni Yang has found that more and more venues are actively reducing carbon emissions, which has given him a special sense of achievement. "I am very proud to pass on the green and low-carbon concept to more people," he said
Among the 44 renovated or temporary venues of the Hangzhou Asian Games, prefabricated buildings and recyclable and renewable materials are being promoted; The venue has replaced LED energy-saving lighting fixtures to promote efficient and stable energy consumption. Preliminary statistics show that the recycling and utilization rate of materials during the Hangzhou Asian Games is not less than 50%, and solid waste can be 100% safely and harmlessly treated.

"Next, we will make every effort to enhance our green security capabilities in energy, transportation, accommodation, catering, and other aspects during the Games, promote the construction of the 'waste free Asian Games', and strive to create the first carbon neutral Asian Games," said Ma Liyang, Minister of Environmental Protection of the Hangzhou Asian Organizing Committee.
