US President Joe Biden has issued an executive order to appoint a dedicated coordinator to be responsible for long-term recovery efforts in the area.
According to Biden's executive order, the Federal Emergency Management Agency must designate a long-term recovery coordinator within five days, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Health and Human Services must provide inspection reports within the specified time, and relevant departments will continue to hold Norfolk Southern Railroad responsible for the train derailment incident.
On February 3rd this year, a train carrying hazardous chemicals derailed and caught fire in East Palestine, Ohio, USA. Emergency personnel conducted a so-called "controlled release" of a derailed tank car carrying vinyl chloride to avoid a large-scale explosion, resulting in a large amount of toxic substances entering the air, water, and soil. Many nearby residents reported health problems.
