Ji Na | Xinhua News Agency's "Show Me China" International Communication Documentary "New Era Chinese Rural Chronicles" Series, Complete Five Episodes
Editor's note: From "ice and snow" to "green mountains and clear waters", from ancient intangible cultural heritage to cutting-edge 5G technology, rural China is undergoing tremendous changes at an astonishing speed. The International Communication Program of "Show Me China" has launched a five episode series of "New Era China Rural Chronicles", focusing on rural revitalization in five aspects: industry, culture, talent, ecology, and organization. Each episode is about 15 minutes long, with a total length of 70 minutes. Following the footsteps of domestic and foreign hosts, it travels through four seasons, spanning the east, west, north, south, and middle schools, telling the beloved Chinese rural stories of global audiences. We hereby collect all five documentary short films and express our gratitude!
[Episode 1: Snow Village is Not a Fairy Tale]
More than 40 years ago, in the the Changbai Mountains in northeast China, a little known village was hidden deep between snow and ice and mountains, with a wonderful snow scenery rarely seen in the world. It is today's tourist check-in destination: Xuexiang.
From unknown remote areas to bustling tourist towns, from "the first homestay" to "sharing with the world", how can Xuexiang embark on a path of industrial revitalization that "thrives on snow"?
We step into this silver clad land, spanning nearly half a century, and tell a unique story of rural revitalization in the new era. This is not a fairy tale in the snow, but a true record of the snow village.
[Episode 2: Record of Qiang Embroidery Emerging from the Mountain]
The blooming vine shaped flowers are full of vitality. This special pattern originates from Wenchuan in southwestern China, which is a gathering place for the ancient Qiang ethnic minority. For thousands of years, they have lived in high mountains and are known as the "people on the clouds".
Qiang embroidery, listed as a national intangible cultural heritage, is famous for its thorny "flowers" and once faced a crisis of inheritance. Nowadays, Qiang embroidery, with its unique ethnic style and colors, has attracted the attention of international brands and become a fashionable element that goes global. A fragrant and blooming green tea flower allows the world to understand the language of the Qiang people. The small silver needle and colorful Qiang embroidery have changed the fate of the remaining Wenchuan people after the earthquake, and also made the world accept the ancient Qiang embroidery art.

[Episode 3: Run, Qingshantou]
As the venue for sailing and beach volleyball competitions at the Hangzhou Asian Games, Xiangshan County, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, is located in the eastern part of the Xiangshan Peninsula, with the geographical feature of "surrounded by the sea on three sides and crossing the land on one line". Factors such as land use, inconvenient transportation, and limited resources were once challenges for the economic development of the county.
But in the past decade, the local area has developed characteristic villages with "sports+tourism" tailored to local conditions, and the rural landscape has undergone significant changes. What kind of story has happened here, from underdeveloped villages to affluent villages?
As the countdown to the Hangzhou Asian Games begins, we arrived in Xiangshan County, Ningbo City. Chinese and foreign hosts walked into the fields and chatted with the elderly and villagers here, learning about the ups and downs of rural cadre work, visiting the national sports modernization demonstration village - Qingshantou Village, and uncovering the organizational strength of rural revitalization.
[Episode 4: Ten Years of New Life in Millennial Terraced Fields]
The world-famous the Hani terraced fields of Honghe State is considered as a world agricultural wonder created by human hands. The local people of various ethnic groups, mainly the Hani ethnic group, have utilized the geographical and climatic conditions of "one mountain divided into four seasons, ten miles with different days" to create an agricultural civilization that has been passed down from over 1300 years ago to the present day.
However, the terraced fields cultivated by the ancestors of the Hani ethnic group over a thousand years ago have encountered difficulties in development in modern society. How can local people support themselves while protecting the terraced ecosystem?
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the successful application of the Hani terraced fields of Honghe State for World Heritage. How has the ecosystem of Hani terraced fields been protected in the past decade? What are the latest changes that have occurred? What kind of transformation has the implementation of the "Azeko Plan" brought to life here?
We came to Yuanyang County, Yunnan Province for on-site investigation, and in the context of rural revitalization, the survival wisdom of the Hani people was presented and answered one by one here.
【 Episode 5: 5G Chili King Returns Home 】
Whether it's fresh and tender Mapo tofu or mellow spicy chicken, the secret of complete color, flavor and taste in the map of Chinese food must be pepper! However, few people know that the traditional process of planting chili peppers is very difficult, requiring long-term kneeling and deformation of nails due to crop corrosion.
Linying County, Henan Province is located in the Yellow River Basin, with abundant soil and water, suitable for planting chili peppers. However, the inefficient traditional planting methods make it even more difficult to sustain the already sluggish agriculture.
However, a young person returning to his hometown has given Linying County new hope. He has established a large-scale 5G smart agriculture base, greatly improving efficiency and transforming Linying County from a poor and backward small county into the "number one digital chili pepper county in China". The new farmers who return to their hometowns to start businesses continuously inject vitality into the local agricultural development.
