International students experience firsthand that the engine of an Air China aircraft caught fire
According to Jimu News, on September 10th, the CA403 flight from Chengdu Tianfu Airport to Singapore Changi Airport experienced cabin smoke before landing. The crew followed the procedures and the plane landed at Singapore Changi Airport at 16:14 Beijing time. After landing, the crew organized emergency evacuation for passengers, and Singapore Changi Airport activated the emergency procedures. Ms. Cai, who was studying abroad in Singapore, was on a plane when the incident occurred. On the evening of September 10th, she told Jimu News reporters that she had covered her mouth and nose with one hand and had already written a suicide note with her phone with the other. Fortunately, the plane finally landed safely.
Flight passenger Ms. Cai told Jimu News reporters that more than ten minutes before landing, a passenger on the plane reported smoke in the cabin, and she also noticed smoke rising inside the cabin. But slowly, the smoke began to thicken and it was also very choking. Ms. Cai then covered her mouth and nose with a blanket and said, "It was quite scary at that time. When I covered my mouth and nose with one hand, the other hand wrote the suicide note on my phone. I don't know if it could be sent out, but I wrote it first."

Ms. Cai is studying in Singapore and took advantage of the school holiday to return to China. Before leaving, she visited Chengdu and happened to be able to return to Singapore to study. According to her recollection, after the smoke rose, the flight attendants distributed wet wipes to the passengers. When the smoke was thick, the visibility inside the cabin became very low. Some passengers asked how long it would take to land, but the flight attendants replied that there were still ten minutes left. Therefore, Ms. Cai calculated that the smoking time was between ten to twenty minutes before landing. "The flight attendants have been saying that they are very professional and have received training."
The video sent by Ms. Cai shows that there is smoke coming out of the cabin, and passengers use wet wipes to cover their mouths and noses. She recalled that there was not much difference between this landing and regular plane landings, except that during the landing, the flight attendant asked the passengers to lower their heads, "The landing may be a bit rushed, but it was also okay.".
After the plane landed, Ms. Cai heard the flight attendant repeatedly remind passengers not to carry luggage, but after sliding down the emergency slide to evacuate, she saw that a passenger had pulled their luggage. After getting off the plane, she immediately contacted her family to report safety. "They initially thought it was okay, but they were also scared when they saw photos of the news scene." After evacuating, Ms. Cai noticed that some passengers had minor scratches while escaping, but it didn't seem like a problem.
Ms. Cai said that because she has a passport and other documents, as well as an address in Singapore, she can leave early. However, her luggage will take a few days to be delivered to her home, and some passengers still have their passports and related documents in their luggage, so they need to wait for the luggage on the plane to be transported.
