On September 21, Hong Kong Baptist University held the 18th Honorary University Fellowship Awards Ceremony. Hong Kong Legislative Council member Huo Qigang and seven outstanding individuals have been awarded "Honorary University Fellows". Baptist University stated that awarding this honor aims to recognize their significant contributions in different fields.
The outstanding individuals who were honored as academicians of the university on that day include: Cha Yichao, Huo Qigang, Ji Wenfeng, Li Jian, Ma Taiyan, Alexander B Murphy, and Wang Keqin.

Baptist University pointed out in its praise that Huo Qigang has selflessly contributed to the Hong Kong sports industry for over a decade, holding multiple public positions related to sports and leading the Hong Kong delegation in international competitions as the team leader. He is also enthusiastic about social affairs, paying attention to youth development and artistic and cultural affairs.
The praise states that regardless of the type of public office he holds, Huo Qigang maintains a persistent attitude, reflecting his life motto: wholehearted dedication, willingness to listen, and learning from others. For young students, these maxims and attitudes are highly beneficial, allowing them to apply the experience and wisdom of their predecessors to create new values that meet the needs of future society.
Huo Qigang delivered a thank-you speech on behalf of seven honorary university academicians. He thanked Baptist University for awarding the honorary title of University Fellow. He said that although the academicians of prestigious universities have different backgrounds, they are equally proud to represent their respective fields and are equally determined to promote change. He also expressed gratitude to Baptist University for tirelessly nurturing young people over the past few decades, teaching them to care about society, be brave in innovation, and broaden their horizons, not only pursuing outstanding academic achievements, but also becoming a more outstanding and contributing person to society.
He also reviewed his own experience and expressed gratitude for returning to Hong Kong for development, which gave him the opportunity to better understand Hong Kong and the country, contribute his own strength, and serve Hong Kong. He believes that Hong Kong needs to play a greater role and take on more responsibilities in the process of achieving the second centenary goal of the country.
Honorary University Fellows is one of the honorary degrees of Hong Kong Baptist University. It is also a common practice in Hong Kong universities to award honorary degrees to individuals who have made contributions to promoting social development and improving people's well-being.
Masters of Chinese studies such as Ji Xianlin and Rao Zongyi, literary figures Ba Jin, Mo Yan, and Yu Guangzhong, linguist Lv Shuxiang, painters Wu Guanzhong and Zhao Wuji, and sculptor Wu Weishan have received honorary doctorates in literature from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Zhong Nanshan has received an Honorary Doctorate in Science from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and an Honorary Doctorate from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Yao Ming has obtained an honorary Doctor of Social Sciences degree from the University of Hong Kong.
