Green Electricity Safeguards "Yangtze River Oasis" Electricity | Xinjizhou | Yangtze River
Xinhua News Agency, Nanjing, September 11th - Question: Green electricity protects the "Yangtze River Oasis"
Xinhua News Agency reporter Shen Rufa
Birds soar in the blue sky, animals inhabit deep in the forest, and finless porpoises play in the Yangtze River... China's first Yangtze River intertidal national wetland park, the Yangtze River Xinjizhou National Wetland Park, has become an oasis in the Yangtze River since the implementation of ecological migration in 2000.
The Yangtze River Oasis cannot be separated from the protection of green electricity. The reporter saw during an interview in Xinjizhou that the previously scattered "spider web" wires had disappeared. In order to protect birds, insulated wires were specially erected and bird nests were set up on poles... "Xinjizhou needs the joint protection of electricity, relevant departments, and the public," said Zhang Haoliang, director of the Power Supply Center of Jiangning District Power Supply Company of State Grid in Nanjing.
The wires that affect the ecological landscape have become a part of the ecological landscape. "Originally, the electrical wires used by residents and businesses on the island were quite chaotic." Zhang Haoliang said that after design and planning, the power department added 3 high-voltage special transformers and 7 comprehensive transformers in the renovation, laid 12.5 kilometers of high-voltage power supply lines, and installed 5.5 kilometers of low-voltage overhead lines.
The reporter saw on the island that the power lines are now orderly, and the appearance of the distribution room is refreshed, complementing the surrounding scenery. These power supplies meet the electricity needs of facilities such as Xinjizhou Ecological Monitoring Point and Biodiversity Exhibition Hall, and can monitor bird and fish activities in real time to ensure the ecological restoration of the island.
After the implementation of the recuperation mode, Xinjizhou has experienced rapid ecological restoration. The number of bird species has increased from 103 in 2016 to 221 in 2023. To protect birds, the power department uses insulated wires to build circuits and sets up bird nests on utility poles.
In order to maintain the original ecology of Xinjizhou, the reporter interviewed and found that the street lights on the island use photovoltaic street lights, which store energy during the day and generate electricity at night, and are low-carbon and environmentally friendly; The river crossing route adopts cable laying to minimize the impact on the environment as much as possible.
More than 10 power workers from State Grid Nanjing Power Supply Company have also joined the "Yangtze River Watchers Alliance" and collaborated with local volunteers to carry out volunteer activities such as river patrols, river management, and legal education along the Xinjizhou coast.
"When we see someone illegally fishing, we go to stop it. If there is garbage along the coast, we go pick it up. Everything we do is to protect Xinjizhou and the Yangtze River," said Hu Yong, a staff member of State Grid Nanjing Power Supply Company.
