France refuses to share!, Italy is overwhelmed
The Italian Mediterranean island of Lampedusa has recently seen a surge of immigrants, leaving the local area overwhelmed. Italy calls on other European Union countries to share the acceptance of immigrants, and the French government stated on the 19th that it is willing to help repatriate immigrants, but will not accept immigrants from the island of Lampedusa.
Lampedusa Island is located at the southernmost point of Italy and is one of the main transit points for refugees and illegal immigrants from war-torn regions in Africa and the Middle East to Italy and other European countries. From the 11th to the 13th of this month, over 8500 immigrants arrived on Lampedusa Island by boat, exceeding the island's permanent population, forcing the local government to declare a state of emergency.
On July 26th, at Cape Ajdir on the border between Tunisia and Libya, numerous immigrants were stranded along the Mediterranean coast. Shen Jizhong
On the 20th, the Italian news agency Ansa reported that a large number of immigrants have flooded into the island of Lampedusa in the past two days. Nearly 900 people arrived on the 19th, and 171 people arrived on the morning of the 20th. A local immigration center can only accommodate about 400 people, but currently there are over 1700 people, making it extremely crowded.

Faced with a surging wave of immigration, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called on other EU countries to take on more responsibility and share the acceptance of immigrants.
On the 19th, French Minister of the Interior Gerald Darmanin said in an interview with French television that the French side has told the Italian side that they are willing to help repatriate immigrants back to "countries with good diplomatic relations with the French side," such as C ô te d'Ivoire and Senegal, but France "will not accept these immigrants.".
Previously, France and Italy had multiple conflicts over immigration issues. Last November, Italy refused to allow a ship carrying over 200 immigrants to dock, and the ship was eventually allowed to dock in France. The French side strongly condemned the Italian side for being "selfish", while the Italian side called their response "inappropriate" and "incomprehensible".
