Due to multiple flight delays, the US military's "Osprey" transport plane made an emergency landing at a civilian airport in Japan
According to Kyodo News Agency, at around 4:30 pm local time on the 16th, a US military "Osprey" transport plane that had not submitted a request for use made an emergency landing at Oita Airport in Koto City, Oita Prefecture, Japan.
According to reports, the Japan Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's Oita Airport Office revealed that the emergency landing incident resulted in a temporary closure of the runway for 15 minutes and delayed takeoff and landing of three passenger flights. Emergency landing did not cause any injuries to personnel.
According to reports, just two days ago, two Osprey planes each made emergency landings at Amami Airport in Kagoshima Prefecture and Shin Ishigaki Airport in Okinawa Prefecture. One of the Amami planes departed on the 14th, while the remaining one remained at the airport.
Two planes from Shinishigaki departed on the 14th and 16th, respectively. According to the Okinawa Defense Agency of the Japanese Ministry of Defense, the malfunctioning aircraft has been repaired.
Since its service, the safety of the Osprey transport plane has been questioned due to frequent accidents. The "Osprey" deployed by the US military in Japan has experienced multiple incidents of component drops and emergency landings, leading to strong protests from local residents.
