On the evening of the 20th, the reporter saw Zhou Zhonglei, tall and thin, dressed in a suit and tie, with a mask pulled up to his chin. He is a security guard, and the day's work is not over yet. When he saw a reporter holding a camera and making a request not to show his face, he wore a mask and accepted the interview.

The video of jumping off a bridge to save people has been circulating online, with many likes and some lamenting that "our society needs more people like this.". Zhou Zhonglei didn't pay much attention to the various praises and didn't take the statement of acting bravely for justice seriously. Zhapu Road Bridge is a popular bridge on the Suzhou River, named after its excellent location for shooting the skyline of Lujiazui. At around 9:00 on the 20th, some tourists were taking photos on the bridge. Zhou Zhonglei was familiarizing himself with the work environment on South Suzhou Road. He usually works in Xuhui District, but on the same day, he temporarily dispatched an external worker to Huangpu District.

At that time, Zhou Zhonglei was about 100 meters away from the Zhapu Road Bridge. Suddenly, a message came from the intercom of the nearby security guard, "Someone fell into the water on Zhapu Road Bridge."

Without much thought, he ran to the bridge to see the situation. "When I rushed over, people had already fallen into the water, sinking and floating up, as if they were still a bit conscious. They called out twice. The bridge was filled with onlookers, and someone was calling the police."

After quickly assessing the situation at the scene, Zhou Zhonglei flipped over to the grass on the south side of the bridge, took off his shoes, and jumped into the water. He swam towards the drowning person with a thump, and a security guard on the shore threw down the lifebuoy, which was slightly off course. Zhou Zhonglei rushed towards the lifebuoy and quickly put it on the person who fell into the water.

"He's not as clear anymore and doesn't move. He's about the same size as me, thin and quite heavy when rescuing, but not too much pressure." Zhou Zhonglei pulled the lifebuoy and people swimming towards the barge parked on the shore, and the two were pulled up, the whole process only took about a minute.

The people have been rescued, and the police have also arrived. Zhou Zhonglei put on his shoes and prepared to leave. "I need to leave quickly because I'm in a hurry to go to work," the police stopped him and registered his information.

Later on the 20th, police officer Weng Yuliang from the Bund Police Station told reporters from Pengpai News that he received a report at around 9:50 this morning that someone had jumped into the Zhapu Road Bridge, and the specific situation is unknown. When the police arrived at the scene, the person who fell into the water had already been rescued. "Male, wearing black clothes, roughly judged to be under 20 years old, with vital signs, but temporarily unconscious." The police immediately contacted 120 to take him to the hospital for emergency treatment, and he is now out of danger.

At the time of the incident, there were many people watching on the Zhapu Road Bridge, and the police evacuated the crowd. The person who fell into the water left a pair of shoes, a pair of glasses, and a mobile phone, which are temporarily kept by the police.

"I just wanted to save him, there's no other idea." From hearing someone fall into the water to diving to save someone, Zhou Zhonglei admitted that his mind didn't think too much.
