Community residents skillfully dress up their lives! Immersive "Green Classroom for Flower and Horticulture" Enters the Community
Recently, the Pudong New Area Greening Committee Office and the New Area Greening Management Affairs Center collaborated with the Zhangjiang Town Cultural Service Center to bring an immersive "green classroom" to the community residents of Zhangjiang through flowers as a medium. More than 40 participants experienced DIY of horticultural handmade plant pots, simulating the arrangement of green plants in home spaces. Through scene based display, they presented the aesthetic education concept of "horticulture into the home, greening and beautifying life" to everyone.
Window balconies are a great place for office and home flower enthusiasts to showcase their talents. However, is it only based on the beauty of the flowers and plants, rather than understanding their growth habits? How can different types of windows and balconies create horticultural spaces? Besides flowers and plants, what are the considerations for creating balconies in fruit and vegetable gardens? With these practical topics in mind, community horticulturist Zhang Xiuzhen, the winner of the 2018 Shanghai Citizen Flower Arrangement Competition Gold Award, shared her planting and maintenance experience of common green plants on home windows and balconies with the theme of "Greening Windows and Balconies in Home Office Spaces for the First Time". She was well stocked with practical knowledge. After accumulating theoretical knowledge, the opportunity has come to test everyone's hands-on ability. Each participant will receive a DIY gift package for handmade plants, including Phragmites fordii, reticulated grass, white vein pepper grass, white hair moss, etc. Each participant has their own unique creativity in terms of spatial layout and skillful cultivation. After a quarter of an hour, even a "green novice" can present a green and delicate potted plant sketch under guidance.
"The combination of plants here looks quite symmetrical visually, with stones paving a small path in the middle to create a deep feeling. In the back corner of the main scene, I decorated it with a stone, like a rockery. I am quite satisfied with this work, and it looks vibrant and healing when taken back and placed on the balcony." Zhang Jiang, a white-collar worker, shared with reporters.
Zhang Xiuzhen looked at everyone's horticultural works and praised them, and also commented on some cases.
The reporter learned that as one of the main activities of the 2023 Pudong New Area Citizen Greening Festival, the Flower and Horticulture Community Activity will visit 15 streets and towns in Pudong this year, and plans to achieve full coverage of all streets and towns in Pudong next year. The greening department of the new district will further collaborate with the district's cultural and artistic guidance center, actively carry out innovative family horticulture service actions by linking streets, towns, and communities, provide citizens with opportunities to learn and experience flower horticulture up close, stimulate their enthusiasm for family horticulture, advocate for them to better build their living environment into a green, warm, and beautiful home, and create a beautiful ecological Pudong through practical actions.
Zhang Ling, Deputy Director of the Pudong New Area Greening Management Affairs Center, told reporters that in the future, the Pudong New Area Greening Center will also deepen the community horticultural system, establish citizen horticultural centers, and other aspects to promote the construction of a family horticultural service system, thereby improving the quality of life of citizens.
