CCTV Interview | Hungarian Foreign Minister: Decoupling Europe from China is a Bad Idea
Recently, Hungarian Foreign Minister Sialdo, who was attending the general debate of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, stated in an exclusive interview with CCTV reporters that Hungary opposes the official announcement by EU leaders that they will launch a countervailing investigation against Chinese electric vehicles, stating that decoupling Europe from China is a bad idea.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Siyardo: Some Western European politicians have made regrettable remarks about the decoupling of the European economy from China. We do not agree with this point. We are convinced that engaging in as close economic cooperation as possible with China is in the interest of Europe. If we cannot establish such close cooperation, Europe will suffer a lot of losses. This is Hungary's very firm and consistent position. Decoupling the economies of Europe and China is a bad idea. This decoupling policy was proposed by the EU bureaucracy, which we do not want to see.

CCTV reporter Xu Dezhi: Regarding the EU's anti subsidy investigation into Chinese electric vehicles, if this situation continues, we know that Hungary has investment from CATL. What impact will this have?
Hungarian Foreign Minister Siyardo: Western European manufacturers and car manufacturers have invested billions, even hundreds of billions of euros, in new technologies. But the West has forgotten one thing, which may not be achievable, and that is to establish production capacity for electric vehicle batteries in Europe. Therefore, although Western European companies can also produce electric vehicles, batteries are manufactured by Asian countries such as China. We must accept this situation and make full use of it. Therefore, we should not threaten or distance ourselves from each other, but strive to cooperate.
