Buying a fortune report for 38 yuan... Young people's "cloud fortune telling" encounter multiple tricks, and their online consultation is automatically charged
Recently, there has been a saying among many young people that goes, "Ask the eight characters for big things, ask the Tarot for small things, and ask the zodiac signs for nothing.".
With the enthusiasm of young people for "cloud fortune telling", a large number of businesses engaged in such business have appeared on the Internet. They attract users through websites, apps, official account and even circles of friends under the guise of "fortune tellers", "Chinese Classics Lecture Hall", "psychological counseling", "fortune telling" and other names.
The investigation by reporters found that many of these merchants used this as a scam to obtain money. However, many fell into this trap, and some even fell into deeper traps more than once, making it difficult to extricate themselves.
Connect to test fortune and encounter deceitful fortune tellers
Shandong netizen Ms. Wang couldn't figure out how to trust and pay for an unprofessional fortune telling anchor.
In February of this year, she downloaded an app called "Test X" to find out the reasons for her unfavorable work and relationships, and to test her luck.
Ms. Wang told reporters that she found a Five Elements expert in the "Eight Characters" section of the X app to help her calculate her eight characters. After chatting for more than ten minutes, she felt that the other person's words were clich é s and not helpful to her, so she decisively terminated the conversation. But after a while, the third-party payment platform sent an automatic deduction message of 46 yuan.
Afterwards, Ms. Wang saw a live broadcast room with a microphone connection function from the "Square" section of the X app. She clicked on it to inquire about the connection, and then the anchor used a series of calculations such as figure eight, dice, and tarot cards to say a bunch of deceiving words, which were also not helpful to her. So, Ms. Wang logged out of the system by logging in. Not long after, the third-party payment platform sent another automatic deduction message, this time deducting more than 1800 yuan from her.
"I don't even know when I activated automatic fee deduction, and it's still 'no password payment'. With so many deductions, I feel like I've been deceived," Ms. Wang said helplessly.
Ms. Shan works in Tianjin and is 22 years old this year. She told reporters that she was recently tested and deducted over 590 yuan from the X App. When connecting to the anchor, she did not clearly indicate the price, and the payment was automatically deducted without her own permission.
The beta app has also been criticized by many users for being unprofessional by anchors named teachers.
Ms. Wang told her that after observation, it was found that the anchors in this app used the name of psychological counseling to lure consumers, but these anchors did not have professional qualifications in the field of psychological counseling. Moreover, the anchors also had separate chat groups, where they occasionally discussed how many orders they received that day and what new things the counselors encountered.
The reporter downloaded the app on his mobile phone and introduced it as follows: "A social app that integrates star chart search, zodiac fortune, tarot dice, fate gathering, online consultation, and zodiac dating."
Consultation can be divided into two types: regular online consultation and 1V1 consultation. Regular consultation costs a few to ten yuan per minute, and viewers of the live broadcast can hear the consultation content; The 1V1 service also ranges from a few yuan to several tens of yuan per minute, but the consultation content can only be heard by both parties.
On this app, you need to purchase tokens, where one yuan is equal to one token. There is a small gray line on the recharge page and the purchase payment page that reads "Real time settlement will be made according to the selected method.". That is to say, on this app, unless you purchase a gift package, the fee will be automatically charged, and it will be charged based on the number of minutes.
In response to many users' complaints about the "automatic fee deduction" of the platform, its official explanation is: "The secret free payment is for the convenience of users, and users can choose whether to activate the function of Alipay."
The report generated by web fortune telling is identical
The webpage is also filled with fortune telling information.
At the end of last year, Xiao Guo, who was studying at a university in Beijing, received a text message from an account called "Lingji Culture". The text message reads: "Guo Moumou, 2023 year old luck intersects with Ziwei Star Movement. To view your Ziwei Flowing Year Report, please click on a certain link."
Xiaoguo was born into a relatively "traditional" family. He told me that after receiving the text message, Xiaoguo clicked on the link driven by curiosity. According to Xiao Guo's description, at the moment of clicking, a "coupon" popped up on the page, displaying "Congratulations, you were hit by a red envelope, and the purchase calculation was reduced by 50 yuan.". After receiving the red envelope, a "30 minute countdown" purchase link appeared on the page, urging him to make a quick purchase.
Clicking on the link shared by Xiaoguo, the reporter was also hit by a 50 yuan red envelope.
The reporter found through browsing that there are many types of "fortune telling" on the webpage: "Guess you like" and "Popular this week" are two common sections, such as "Eight Character Classic" and "Eight Character Marriage"; Under the webpage, there are two categories: "Premium Recommendation" and "New Product Tasting". In "Premium Recommendation", there are "Hitting Noble People" and "Hitting Destiny", while in "New Product Tasting", there are "True Destiny Tarot" and "Nine Star Three Star Performance".
Under the categories of "boutique recommendations" and "new product tasting", display the number of buyers for each calculation item, such as "detailed batch of 6381 people with eight character names have purchased" and "7839 people who have hit the target have purchased".
Xiao Guo recalled, "The original price for purchasing a calculation was 88 yuan, and with a red envelope, it was 38 yuan. I didn't think it was expensive at the time and didn't care about the outcome, so I bought a report on the current year's fortune."
"The first step in calculating is to input your name, gender, date of birth, and specific time. Then, there is an animation that displays the specific steps of the calculation: input the information of the destiny master, An Ming Gong, Ding Zi MSI, calculate the four transformations of the heavenly stems, analyze the opportunities and changes in fortune." Xiao Guo said that in fact, even before his birth, his family had someone calculate his "auspicious birth time", and even his name was given by the "fortune telling master". ".
According to Xiao Guo, "Finally, there is the payment and collection of the annual fortune report. The page also deliberately uses exaggerated font to write, 'Next year is a critical period in your life, seize the turning point of fate, and start good luck!' A few minutes later, the page pops up again, 'was hit by a 7.6 yuan red envelope.' When switching to payment, you can see that the recipient's name is' Fengsui Senior Brother Consultation '."
In his opinion, a fortune report was generated about 5 seconds after payment, with thousands of words scattered around, but there was no significant point when reading it, and it felt like it was just a vague statement. For example, "The report says he needs to pay attention to his' physical health ', and I want to ask, which year doesn't he need to pay attention to his' physical health'? Also, regarding his emotional situation, the report says he wants me to 'let nature take its course'."
Xiao Guo has counted several times since then, but the reports received are almost the same, sometimes almost the same.
Platforms must block the spread of feudal superstitions
As for online fortune telling, Zhu Jie, senior partner and network manager of Taihe Tai Law Firm, believes that "cloud fortune telling" is essentially an act of spreading feudal superstitions in the guise of Internet technology.
Zhu Jie said that these "fortune tellers" have learned some "sales language" and then use big data and psychological suggestions to make their "divine intentions" consistent with the life difficulties faced by most people in society, triggering empathy among the fortune tellers and then deceiving them of their money.
Why are there so many tricks using "fortune telling" as a pretext nowadays?
Zhu Jie believes that the root cause may be the imbalanced psychology in people's hearts. When it is impossible to change this dilemma on their own, "seeking God and worshipping Buddha" has become a way to resolve psychological difficulties.
According to the reporter's understanding, there are not only websites and apps, but also some anchors engaged in fortune telling business on some live streaming platforms.
Regarding this, Zhu Wei, Deputy Director of the Communication Law Research Center of China University of Political Science and Law, said that the platform should verify the identity of operators, sales of products or services, and establish archives to dynamically monitor operators. Operators who spread feudal superstitions and illegally profit should be punished, such as providing services, fines, and prohibiting re entry; The relevant departments should strengthen publicity, crack fraudulent tricks, and crack down on illegal personnel.
Zhu Jie calls for inner peace for individuals, and the difficulties brought about by society or life should not be solved by others or so-called fortune telling; For platforms, live streaming platforms, shopping platforms, etc. should take responsibility, have strict review responsibilities for the entry of operators, and fulfill platform regulatory obligations in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
