Both of them can't see their faces clearly when facing each other! " The passengers on the burning flight recounted the thrilling moment, "There is a lot of thick smoke."
Yesterday, Air China Flight CA403, flying from Chengdu, Sichuan to Singapore, caught fire in the air and made an emergency landing at Changi Airport in Singapore around 16:15. A total of 146 passengers and 9 crew members on board have been safely evacuated. Early this morning, Air China responded that it was preliminarily determined that the incident was caused by a mechanical failure of the engine, and further investigation is currently underway.
After the incident, the China Voice reporter at the headquarters immediately contacted Mr. Bian, the passenger of the flight, to recreate the thrilling moment he had personally experienced.
"There is a lot of thick smoke, feeling chest tightness and spicy eyes"
The witness reviews the thrilling moments inside the cabin
"I was sleeping and woke up to find a strong smell of aviation kerosene in the cabin. My first reaction was that the cargo hold caught fire." According to Mr. Bian's recollection, most passengers in the cabin could smell the smell at that time, and many people instinctively covered their mouths and noses with blankets from the plane.

Mr. Bian told reporters that after the plane continued to fly for about five or six minutes, two thick plumes of smoke began to spread towards the center in the front and rear cabins. The flight attendants took immediate measures and pulled up the front curtains to verify information with the cockpit. At the same time, the aviation safety officer walked from the first row to the last row and checked all the luggage in the cabin, but did not find any burning situation.
According to information released on the official Weibo account of Changi Airport in Singapore, at 15:59 on the 10th, CA403 flight reported smoke in the cargo warehouse and restroom, declaring an emergency situation and requesting priority landing.
Mr. Bian recalled that before the plane landed, there was already a lot of thick smoke in the cabin. "Both of them couldn't see their faces clearly, and some passengers were already uncomfortable because they had been inhaling the pungent smell for a long time, which made people feel chest tightness and even irritated their eyes."
At around 16:15, CA403 landed on the third runway of Changi Airport in Singapore. Mr. Bian said that after landing, the flight immediately opened the safety door on the left side, "We all used an inflatable slide to slide out."

Air China response: Preliminary assessment of engine mechanical failure
On the early morning of the 11th, Air China responded that it was preliminarily determined that the CA403 flight incident on September 10th was caused by a mechanical engine failure and is currently under further investigation.
In response to this incident, Wang Yanan, editor in chief of Aviation Knowledge magazine, believes that generally speaking, engine malfunctions and fires can be isolated through aerial emergency response and will not affect the cabin. Further investigation is still needed for this incident.
"If the engine catches fire and the fuel supply is cut off, the fire will naturally be suppressed. In theory, there should be no smoke or fire in the cabin. At least from the perspective of the phenomenon, it is not easy to understand, so I think a more detailed investigation may be needed."
In case of emergency on the plane, one should follow instructions
Some on-site videos after the plane landed showed that some passengers were carrying their own luggage in panic. In this regard, Wang Yanan stated that in an emergency situation, the first thing to do is to follow the arrangements and commands of the flight attendant, while avoiding the behavior of carrying luggage, creating space and time for escape.

"Once the plane lands, the entire emergency evacuation procedure will be activated. Once the emergency escape hatch is opened, the flight attendant will command passengers to evacuate from the nearest hatch according to the area. Time is precious, as the plane has already caught fire, so there is still a possibility of catching fire."
Wang Yanan emphasized that if passengers choose to carry personal luggage at this time, it will not only block other people's escape routes, but also delay time and cause danger to themselves.
"Sometimes, it may be a few seconds later, and the fire can quickly spread, taking many people's lives. Therefore, during emergency evacuation, passengers are required not to think about the things on the luggage rack, not their carry on luggage, and to evacuate quickly and orderly."
