Recently, the Shanghai Metaverse Technology Standard Innovation Base was officially approved and established. This is the sixth organization to settle in Pudong since our city took the lead in carrying out the construction of a new standardization technology organization nationwide in 2021. The other five are the International Human Phenotype Group Standardization Innovation Center, Biomedical Standardization Innovation Center, Logistics Standardization Innovation Center, Cross border Data Circulation Technology Standard Innovation Base, and Integrated Circuit Technology Standard Innovation Base.

The new base will focus on the development trends of the metaverse both domestically and internationally, synchronize standardization research and database construction, break through key technological standards of the metaverse, build a standardized innovation platform that promotes the transformation and application of virtual reality technology and serves the digital economy, prioritize the transformation of innovative technological achievements into standards, support the scale and deep application of metaverse technology with standards, lead governance rules and institutional innovation, deeply empower Shanghai's digital transformation, and provide impetus for the city to build a globally competitive metaverse development highland.

It is understood that the base is led by the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Industry Association, with the participation of Shanghai Shangtang Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., Tencent Technology Co., Ltd., China Telecom Group Co., Ltd., Shanghai Institute of Quality and Standardization, and other units. In the future, the new base will leverage the resource advantages of the artificial intelligence industry association, release local and group standards, and rely on the core member units of the association to hold important positions in the three major international standardization organizations and international professional organizations such as IEEE. It will make good use of relevant international resources and platforms, actively strengthen communication and exchange with international standardization organizations, and actively participate in international standardization activities such as international standard formulation and revision.

In addition, the new base will also focus on building three platforms to promote technological innovation, transformation and application, and serve the development of the digital economy through standards. For example, building a standardized innovation platform for the universe, providing metaverse transformation and innovation services for various industries, and helping to create metaverse application scenarios that comply with international standards and local characteristics. Through the Metaverse Standardization Information Service Platform, identify the needs and pain points of Metaverse standards, organize training, consultation, certification and other service activities, and promote the application and popularization of Metaverse standards at home and abroad. Build an international standard incubation and cultivation platform for the metaverse, organize technical research and development, experimental verification, expert review, etc., enhance the technical level of the metaverse international standard project, and promote the application and industrialization of standards.

The relevant person in charge of the Pudong Market Supervision Bureau stated that they will work together with relevant departments to support the six organizations to leverage their respective strengths, respond quickly to the development of industries and the standard needs of market entities in areas such as new technologies, new industries, new formats, and new models, effectively connect technology and industrial resources, and stimulate the vitality of market entities to participate in standardization work.
