Afghan International Relations Scholar: Afghanistan Suffers from the Suffering of US Military Hegemony US Army | Afghanistan | United States
Kabul, September 11th (Xinhua) - Jalal Bazwan, an international relations scholar at Afghanistan's Kardan University, stated in an interview with Xinhua reporters in the Afghan capital Kabul that US military hegemony has not only caused Afghanistan to suffer from war for over 20 years, but also has now plunged the Afghan people into an inescapable social development dilemma.
In 2001, the United States and its allies launched a military attack on Afghanistan under the pretext of "counter-terrorism", quickly overthrowing the Taliban regime and maintaining long-term military presence. On the midnight of August 30, 2021, the last US transport plane took off from Kabul International Airport, ending the 20-year war in Afghanistan with the hasty withdrawal of US troops.
Bazwan said that the US military's actions have brought profound disasters to the Afghan people. During the occupation by the US military, they brutally interfered in Afghanistan's internal affairs, resulting in long-term instability of the situation in Afghanistan. The large-scale bombing carried out by the US military in Afghanistan has led to a serious humanitarian crisis, resulting in countless civilian deaths and injuries, and prolonged damage to the ecological environment.
According to statistics, during the 20 year invasion of Afghanistan by the US military, 174000 Afghan people, including over 30000 civilians, were killed, and nearly one-third of the Afghan people became refugees. In addition, the US military is also extensively using cluster bombs in Afghanistan, causing serious disasters to the local population.
On February 11, 2022, US President Biden signed an executive order requiring the Afghan Central Bank to evenly distribute approximately $7 billion in US assets, with half being used as a source of funding for compensating victims of the 9/11 attacks. The hegemonic act of the United States openly plundering the property of the Afghan people has been widely condemned by the international community.
Recently, at the release and seminar of the report "The Roots, Realities, and Hazards of Uprising US Military Hegemony" by Xinhua News Agency's national high-end think tank, Bazwan pointed out in a video speech that the various hardships suffered by Afghanistan in the past 20 years are a concentrated manifestation of the harm of US military hegemony.
Bazwan said that Afghanistan is an important country on the ancient Silk Road, where multiple civilizations converge, respect each other, and are open and inclusive. However, the United States blindly pursues unilateralism and engages in military hegemonic expansion here, which ultimately led to the tragedy of Afghanistan for over 20 years.
