1200 children lost their lives, cholera, measles, dengue fever... Epidemics spreading in Sudanese refugee camps! Within 4 months
On September 19th local time, the World Health Organization and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees issued a joint announcement stating that since the start of the conflict in Sudan, there has been a trend of large-scale spread of epidemics such as cholera, measles, dengue fever, and malaria in multiple camps in countries receiving Sudanese refugees, including South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Chad. A large number of refugees are unable to access sufficient food and clean drinking water. Currently, dozens of children die every day in Sudanese refugee camps due to malnutrition or measles. Over 1200 children have died between May 15th and September 14th.
The announcement also stated that there is a shortage of manpower, life-saving drugs, and critical equipment in multiple refugee camps, and medical institutions are on the brink of collapse. In particular, attacks on medical personnel, patients, and transportation vehicles by both sides of the conflict in Sudan have also restricted local residents from accessing medical services.
