"We believe that the charm of rowing lies not only in confrontation, but also in the inheritance of sportsmanship. It is the willingness to put in years of effort for even a second of improvement; it is also the fearlessness of failure, constantly challenging one's own boundaries, and embracing more possibilities..."

This sentence comes from a special rowing team on the "boarding" field today. They usually wear white coats and save lives on the operating table. Today, they appeared in the "boarding" performance competition, and on the mother river in Shanghai, they demonstrated the spirit of rowing through practical actions - high spirited, persistent, and cooperative. They are the rowing team of Ruijin Hospital affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, the first rowing team established by the national health system.

This young rowing team, which has only been established for half a year, has an average age of 39 years, with the oldest being 56 years old and the youngest being 25 years old. Wu Ping, the full-time vice chairman of the union at Ruijin Hospital, introduced that in early March this year, Ruijin Hospital launched a recruitment process for rowing team members. Through interviews, launching, and rowing equipment testing, 15 team members were selected from nearly 50 applicants.

As one of the "interviewers" and also a rowing enthusiast, Yan Aijun from the medical department said, "I am really delighted to be able to become teammates and fight on the field with my colleagues this time. I hope more rowing enthusiasts can join in."

It can be said that rowing is one of the most scientifically effective sports, as it uses a sitting position, which can use 85% of the body's muscle groups in a low impact state, and is also one of the recommended exercise methods by doctors. At the same time, rowing is also a sport that highly emphasizes team spirit. Dou Junhao from the union is the leader of Ruijin Rowing Team. He introduced that rowing emphasizes three characteristics - balance, rhythm, and harmony. To achieve good results, it is necessary for everyone to adjust, cooperate, and be humble with each other, which is also a characteristic of rowing that is different from other sports. This rowing spirit, just like the medical team that the public knows, works together, cooperates well, and serves patients safely and efficiently.

Of course, rowing training requires professional equipment and venues. In order to achieve efficient training, the Trade Union and Sports Department of Shanghai Jiao Tong University have provided strong support to Ruijin Hospital. Every Saturday, the team members gather at the rowing dock of the Minhang campus of Jiaotong University. Led by the head coach of the rowing team, Yang Yiming, the 3-hour uninterrupted training is always in full swing, rain or shine.

To ensure the balance of the watercraft, several team members increased their training intensity and increased their "weight loss" horsepower. Dr. Liu Di, a critical care doctor, insists on exercising after work every day. From the early stages of rowing training to the eve of competitions, he has lost a whopping 30 pounds; As the logistics support department for the "engine" position on the boat, Liu Chao was once a basketball player who insisted on skipping 10000 ropes every day to achieve "lightning weight loss" and fully adapt to this water sport.

Dr. Yang Renhao, a newly hired member of the Orthopedic Sports Medicine Center, is also one of the team members. As a professional athlete in sports medicine, he also brings health tips to citizens who love or plan to participate in rowing. "Rowing is an endurance exercise that can mobilize the muscles of the whole body. While enhancing muscle strength, it also maintains bone density through mechanical stimulation, which is very beneficial for the health of the musculoskeletal system." He said that this sport itself is not a strong adversarial contact sport, so it is not prone to serious sports injuries and also guarantees one's own sports safety. In the current environment of "integration of sports and medicine", the rise of new sports such as rowing can also better promote the development of sports medicine. "While paying more attention to one's own sports health, cultivating good exercise habits can promote the true deep integration of national fitness and national health."

"Choosing to board the boat is also choosing responsibility." The members of the Ruijin Hospital rowing team expressed that being able to participate in the "Golden Card" competition, which represents the image of Shanghai city, is a fortunate and honorable achievement. It is also an excellent "window" to showcase the spirit of Ruijin and the spirit of health. "While relaxing our body and mind, honing our physical fitness, we also accumulate energy for the high-quality development of the health industry and lay a solid foundation for our own high-quality life." A team member said.
