The Hangzhou Asian Games will be held from September 23 to October 8, and the Chinese sports delegation has recently been officially established. It is reported that there are 85 athletes, 21 coaches, and 3 staff members representing the Chinese army in Shanghai, including Chen Yuxi, Fan Zhendong, Jiang Ranxin, Zhang Ling, Chen Yunxia, and other 2020 Tokyo Olympic champions.
On March 21, 2023, in the women's 10m platform final of the 2023 National Diving Championships held in Shanghai, Shanghai team player Chen Yuxi won the championship with a total score of 416.25 points.
A total of 85 athletes, 21 coaches, and 3 staff members were selected for the Chinese sports delegation in Shanghai. Among them, the Olympic Games event involved 70 athletes, 18 coaches, and 3 staff members, while the non Olympic Games event involved 15 athletes and 3 coaches. Among the 85 athletes, there are 49 male athletes and 36 female athletes. It is expected that Shanghai athletes will participate in 25 major events, 30 sub events, and 80 sub events.

Chinese athlete Qin Haiyang won the men's 100m breaststroke final with a time of 58.92 seconds.

In July 2023, at the FINA World Championships, Chinese athlete Qin Haiyang broke the men's 200m breaststroke world record and won the championship with a time of 2:05.48. He also became the first athlete in history to win all gold medals in the men's 50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke at a single World Championships. At the age of only 24, he rewrote the history of the FINA World Championships. As a master's student majoring in physical education at Tongji University, Qin Haiyang tirelessly competed in the Chengdu Universiade in August and became the focus of the competition with a record breaking record of 5 gold medals and 6 gold medals.

According to Luo Wenhua, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Sports Bureau, including Fan Zhendong, Chen Yuxi, Jiang Ranxin, Zhang Ling, and Chen Yunxia, there are five Shanghai athletes who have competed in the Hangzhou Asian Games and have won the championship at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The average age of Shanghai athletes competing in the Hangzhou Asian Games is 25.65 years old, showing an overall characteristic of combining old, middle, and young athletes. Among the 85 Shanghai athletes, 63 participated in the Asian Games for the first time. It is reported that among the athletes of the Shanghai Asian Games, the oldest is 53 year old bridge player Ju Chuancheng, and the youngest is roller skater Zhu Siyi.
In addition, the two Chinese teams in the football project have a significant advantage in the number of athletes in Shanghai. In the men's football team for the Asian Games, there are 8 Shanghai players, including Zhu Chenjie, Jiang Shenglong, Wang Haijian, Zhang Wei, Xu Haoyang, Dai Weijun, Abrahan Halik, and Liu Ruofang; In the Chinese women's national football team, there are not only Shanghai head coach Shui Qingxia, but also six powerful roses such as Zhang Xin, Yang Lina, Wang Linlin, Zhu Yu, Yan Jinjin, and Shen Mengyu, who are trained and sent to play for Shanghai clubs.
On September 19th, Chinese team player Zhu Chenjie took a shot during the game. He is a team member trained at the Genbao Base on Chongming Island in Shanghai.
In addition, 119 referees from Shanghai will officiate in 32 events.
China participated in the Asian Games for the first time since 1974 and has since participated in 12 sessions. Since the 9th Asian Games in 1982, the Chinese sports delegation has won the highest total number of gold medals for 10 consecutive times.
