User side energy storage will face new development opportunities, and the installed capacity of renewable energy in the first half of the year has historically surpassed that of coal-fired power
With the acceleration of the construction of new power systems, the market attention of the energy storage industry is increasing day by day.
On September 8th, hosted by Shanghai Energy Conservation Association, Shanghai Energy Conservation Center, Shanghai Energy Efficiency Center, and other units, the 2023 Energy Storage Industry Innovation and Development Forum was officially held. Shanghai's key energy institutions, regional key energy consuming enterprises, and upstream and downstream enterprises in the new energy industry chain gathered at the forum to discuss how the application of energy storage technology can promote green transformation of enterprises and high-quality development of industries.
In the first half of 2023, the energy storage market ushered in a historic moment: the installed capacity of renewable energy in China exceeded 1.3 billion kilowatts, reaching 1.322 billion kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 18.2%, surpassing coal-fired power for the first time, accounting for approximately 48.8% of China's total installed capacity. Ruan Li, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, pointed out at the forum that currently, new energy storage is in the stage of development from commercialization to application promotion, and the industrial system is gradually maturing, which is a key period for the formation of various business models.
In July 2022, Shanghai successively released the "Shanghai Action Plan for Targeting the New Track and Promoting the Development of Green and Low Carbon Industries" and the "Shanghai Carbon Peak Implementation Plan". According to the plan, the proportion of non fossil fuels in Shanghai's total energy consumption will strive to reach 20% by 2025, and this number will be further increased to 25% by 2030. Therefore, accelerating the green and low-carbon transformation of energy is becoming a "must test question" in front of Shanghai.
"Shanghai is the province that was the earliest to release an action plan for green and low-carbon industries in China, with the aim of early layout." Qin Hongbo, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Energy Efficiency Center, explained that according to academic estimates, to achieve "carbon neutrality", only 50% of the target can be achieved with the current technology on the market, and the remaining 50% still requires a large amount of research and development after low-carbon industrialization. Therefore, to achieve the "dual carbon" goal, Shanghai cannot do without the research and development incubation and industrialization of green and low-carbon technologies.
During the discussion stage, Zhu Jiaqi, Deputy General Manager of Investment Management Department of Shenergy Group, Zhang Hongbin, Minister of New Energy Development Department of Shanghai Electric Group, and Liu Shuangyu, President of Meikesheng Energy, respectively analyzed the energy storage markets on the power supply side, grid side, and user side. Multiple sources of data indicate that with the construction of new power systems, the energy storage industry will usher in a commercial turning point, especially with the increasing demand in the energy storage market on the industrial and commercial side. By 2025, the installed energy storage capacity in Shanghai is expected to reach 1.2 gigawatt hours, with a market size of 20 billion yuan.
Exploring the user side market, many Shanghai energy storage companies are accelerating the transformation of their product structure. For example, in 2023, Meikesheng Energy launched the "300 Project" plan, which utilizes a billion yuan green energy fund to connect 100 ecological partners and create 100 zero carbon parks. "From our actual experience, last year we contacted some clients who had no concept of industrial and commercial energy storage. However, since the beginning of this year, many high energy consuming enterprises have actively inquired about our energy storage business," said Liu Shuangyu, President of Meikesheng Energy. Due to Meikesheng Energy's early entry into the user side energy storage market and the ability to provide a comprehensive energy storage technology solution, in August alone, 10 "300 Project" energy storage projects were successfully connected to the grid in multiple cities in the Yangtze River Delta.
The rapid development of Meike Energy is a microcosm of Shanghai's green and low-carbon industry. Wei Qiong, founder and chairman of Meikesheng Energy, said, "When Meikesheng was founded in 2018, there was no category of energy storage industry in Shanghai's industrial and commercial sectors. Today, five years later, the energy storage industry is gradually maturing."
