Entering September, the completion rate of the main part of the Phase I renovation project in Luojing Port Area of Shanghai Port has approached 80%. The reporter saw on site that the brand new dock, 115 meters wide and docked on both sides, was magnificent. The structural surface layer of the dock area was basically poured, and most of the large equipment in the early stage had already been removed.
"Equipment such as bridge cranes and track cranes will enter the site in October, and it is expected that the first phase of the project will begin trial operation as planned in December," said Zheng Ke, Deputy Commander in Chief of the Luoji project.
The completion rate of the main part of the dock is close to 80%.
The Luojing Port area used to be a coal and ore terminal. With the high-quality development of the national economy and in accordance with the requirements of the Yangtze River protection, the coal and ore business has successively ceased. This will be transformed into a new generation of intelligent, green, and fully automated container terminal at Shanghai Port, opening up new space for further improvement of container throughput at Shanghai Port.
"If Yangshan Phase IV represents the most advanced technological level at that time, then Luojing Container Terminal represents the highest level of global automated container terminal technology." Zheng Ke said.
For example, the AGV cars of Yangshan Phase IV use magnetic nail positioning, while the Luojing Container Terminal uses AIV cars that integrate vision, radar, 5G, and GPS positioning. In contrast, AIV cars have their own brains, are more intelligent and flexible, have lower costs for handling containers, are less limited by the site, and have more room for future upgrades.

In addition, both the bridge crane and rail crane at Luojing Container Terminal have adopted new concepts and designs, highlighting their unique features and further optimizing energy consumption and operational efficiency.
"The Luojing Container Terminal is not only a renovation, but also a reflection of the concept of high-quality development, and a process of continuous self-improvement for Shanghai Port." Zhou Wei, the leader of the preparatory group for the Luojing Container Terminal, repeatedly emphasized to reporters, "The new generation of intelligent, green, and fully automatic container terminals is not built on flat ground, just like the Yangshan Phase IV, which is hailed as a masterpiece. Behind the Luojing Container Terminal, it actually includes the latest concepts and technologies explored by Shanghai Port at present."
At the fourth phase of Shanghai Port Waigaoqiao Port, AIV small cars have been piloted in the early stage; In other docks, the automation transformation of traditional rail cranes and bridge cranes is also continuously being promoted; These tasks are preparing for the opening of the Luojing container terminal. Once the new terminal is built and put into use, the latest technological achievements in system integration will also benefit the traditional terminal and assist in its transformation and upgrading.
It is reported that the total length of the berths in the Phase I project of Luojing Port Area is 1782.1 meters, including one 100000 ton berth and four 10000 ton berths, with a designed annual throughput capacity of 2.6 million standard containers. After the completion of the first phase of the project, it will become an important domestic trade terminal in Shanghai Port, while the second phase of the project includes both domestic and foreign trade businesses.
"In the past, we paid more attention to foreign trade, but now domestic trade is developing rapidly, and domestic trade ships are becoming larger and larger. Shanghai needs to become a transportation node for national domestic trade, a strategic link between domestic and international dual circulation, and also urgently needs a new port like Luojing Container Terminal to undertake new demands and optimize the service capacity of Shanghai International Shipping Center." Zhou Wei said.
