Shanghai Chemical Society celebrates its centenary, marking the 100th anniversary of "rivers flowing into the sea"
Today, the commemorative conference for the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Shanghai Chemical Society was held. As one of the birthplaces of China's chemical industry, the establishment and development of the Shanghai Society have accompanied the entire process of the Shanghai chemical industry from scratch, from small to large, and from weak to strong.
In 1922, the Chinese Chemical Industry Association was founded by Chen Shizhang, Yu Tongkui, Zhang Xinwu, and others from Peking University. In September 1923, the predecessor of the association, the Shanghai branch of the Chinese Chemical Industry Association, was born in Shanghai with the aim of revitalizing our country's chemical industry. In 1932, more than 40 chemical predecessors founded the "Chinese Chemical Society" with the concept of "there must be a meeting in the study of Chinese civilization". Since then, Shanghai Chemical and Chemical Industry has had its own professional organization.
Huang Deheng, Chairman of the Shanghai Chemical and Chemical Society, stated that from the perspective of the past century's layout, Shanghai's chemical manufacturing industry started with the construction of facilities along the Suzhou River, Yunzaobang, and even Zhaojiabang coasts in the early 20th century. In the 1950s, two major chemical bases, Wujing and Waigaoqiao, were developed and constructed along the Huangpu River. It was not until the early 1970s that Shanghai Petrochemical was developed and constructed in Jinshan, Shanghai, and by the end of the century, Shanghai Chemical Industry Park was developed and constructed, forming a clear trajectory of Shanghai's chemical manufacturing industry entering the sea.
"Shanghai, which was originally not suitable for the development of chemical engineering, not only existed for more than a hundred years, but also held a leading position in various professions and industry fields for a considerable period of time." He said that the integration of industry, academia, and research is a traditional advantage of Shanghai's chemical industry, and it is also a platform built by the Society over the past century.
According to incomplete statistics, as of the first half of 2023, the council members of the association have won a total of 4 first prize projects in the National Natural Science Award; There are 8 first prize projects of the National Science and Technology Invention Award and 11 State Key Laboratory; Published nearly a hundred papers in the world's top three academic journals, Cell, Nature, and Science.
