Why do Hong Kong entrepreneurs and mainland investors "travel in both directions"?, In this competition
On September 13, 2023, the final of the Hong Kong branch of the "Maker China" International SME Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was held at Cyberport, Hong Kong. Fu'er Technology Co., Ltd., Deli Data Co., Ltd., and Hong Kong Carbon Environment Innovation Technology Co., Ltd. stood out from about 150 participating projects and will represent Hong Kong in the annual finals held in Guangzhou in October this year.
This year's competition covers various innovative technology fields, including fintech, artificial intelligence and big data, next-generation information technology, the Internet of Things, and more. It involves more than 230 patents and has facilitated about 70 potential financing negotiations. The reporter saw at the competition site that many entrepreneurial teams started face-to-face communication with investors and business representatives in the Greater Bay Area after completing roadshows, actively communicating financing intentions.
"This is an ideal platform for startups and small and medium-sized enterprises in Hong Kong to better integrate into the overall development of the country and expand business opportunities in the Greater Bay Area," said Huang Zhiguang, Director of Information Technology of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. Many teams have won the favor of many mainland enterprises after participating in the "Maker China" Hong Kong branch competition, gaining investment and cooperation opportunities, and thus demonstrating their skills in a broader space.
The Cyberport, located in Gangxian Bay in the southern district of Hong Kong, is a digital technology center and entrepreneurial training base that brings together over 1900 startups and technology companies. Here, backed by mountains and facing the sea, the scenery is pleasant, and many enterprises have grown here. The top and runner up enterprises in this sub station competition are members of the Cyberport community.
Liang Tairan, the runner up of the competition and founder of Deli Data Co., Ltd., brought the "MOODIE.AI Artificial Intelligence Communication Speech Training Platform" project this time. He introduced that this is a self-management training platform that combines composite artificial intelligence, decision science, and applied psychology. It can accurately analyze the performance of learners and provide customized communication skills learning experiences in various environments. Since its launch in 2021, it has been applied in many companies, middle schools, and universities.
Recalling his entrepreneurial journey, Leung Tai ran said, "The entrepreneurial atmosphere in Cyberport is very strong. Not only did it provide us with a high-quality workplace, but the manager also provided targeted guidance at different stages and arranged for us to participate in exhibitions, etc." He hopes that with the support of Guangzhou and Hong Kong, the company can expand its scale and achieve fruitful results in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area in the future.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Shanghai Hong Kong cooperation mechanism. Just half a year ago, Lingang Group and Cyberport signed a memorandum of cooperation in Hong Kong to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership in the form of "sisters parks". Liang Tairan told reporters that the team is also considering seeking opportunities in the Yangtze River Delta region and "particularly hopes to have the opportunity to start a business in Shanghai.".
This competition is jointly organized by the Small and Medium sized Enterprise Development Promotion Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Office of the Director of Information Technology of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the Youth Work Department of the Hong Kong Liaison Office, and the China Association for International Cooperation in Small and Medium sized Enterprises.
