As a supporting event of the 2023 Beijing Cultural Forum, the 8th Beijing October Literature Month recently kicked off. This is the first time that October Literature Month has been included in the Beijing Cultural Forum.

The theme of this Beijing October Literature Month is "literature moistens the soul, reading enriches life", striving to promote literature to the public. During this period, more than 70 writers and critics, including Wang Meng, Li Jingze, Mo Yan, Alai, Qiu Huadong, Meng Fanhua, Bai Ye, Liu Liangcheng, Li Zishu, Qiao Ye, Xu Zechen, etc., will read good books and discuss literature with citizens through a combination of online and offline methods. At the same time, the organizer will also collaborate with various physical bookstores, museums, and communities to organize mass literary exchanges, sharing, interactive activities for the benefit of the people, as well as writer style activities.

On the day of the opening ceremony, the third "October Signed Writers" was released for this October Literature Month, including Jia Pingwa, Xiong Zhaozheng, Xu Kun, and overseas Chinese writer Li Zishu.

"Beijing is a literary hub in China and even the world, where significant, fresh, and worthwhile stories of the times occur every day, gathering a large number of writers and literary resources for exploration. Becoming a 'October contracted writer' will inspire me to continue creating and contribute more brilliant works to readers," said Xu Kun, editor in chief of the Chinese Writers' Association's "Novel Selection" magazine.

During the October Literature Month, the second "Wang Meng Youth Writers Support Program · Annual Selected Writers", which attracted the attention of young writers, was also announced, and Xue Chaowei, Datouma, and San San were selected. In order to integrate literary resources on a larger scale, this October Literature Month has also planned a number of literary activities that are close to the public. For example, on September 16th, the "Running in the Digital Era" online essay competition forum will be held at the October College of Literature. On the day of the event, writers, critics and media representatives from the post-70s, post-80s and post-90s generations will talk about the survival and life of the Internet era and the power of literary writing around the "literary life in the digital era".

In order to coincide with the annual theme of "Inheriting Excellent Culture and Promoting Exchange and Cooperation" at the 2023 Beijing Cultural Forum, this October Literature Month will launch a series of activities, including "Global First International Literature Dialogue", "Task of Translators - Dialogue between Overseas Translators and Chinese Writers", the Sino Russian Children's Poetry Translation Exchange Plan, and the "Bridge of Literature Connecting Five Continents" Global Overseas Chinese Youth Essay Competition, to contribute to promoting literary exchanges at home and abroad.
