The 2023 Beijing International Design Week will officially open tomorrow. For the first time, this design week will host the opening event and more than 20 exhibitions, forums, markets, and other activities at the permanent venue of Beijing International Design Week in Zhangjiawan Design Town, located in the sub center of the city. The event covers nearly a hundred cultural venues in the sub center of Beijing and various districts of Beijing, and strengthens cooperation with multiple cities in Tianjin and Hebei.

At the 2023 Beijing International Design Week press conference held today, Dong Dianyi, Deputy Secretary General and Office Director of the Beijing International Design Week Organizing Committee, as well as Deputy Director of the Beijing State owned Cultural Assets Management Center, introduced that this design week will focus on "open innovation" as the theme, leverage international resource advantages, and combine China's development needs to make international cooperation in design innovation more practical and larger. A dialogue event on design cities will be held, inviting representatives from well-known design cities at home and abroad to gather in Beijing to explore the future of design development and creative cooperation between cities from multiple perspectives.

He said that this design week would cooperate with China Aerospace, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the China Association for Science and Technology and other institutions to hold "International Science Fiction Season for Aerospace", "Digital Universe Scene, New Theme for Future Design" and other activities, highlight the focus of the design week on science and technology in many projects such as space technology transformation, new material application, and digital multimedia, and advocate and lead more designers into the field of scientific and technological innovation.

Design Week will also hold themed events such as the Salute to Masters Fashion Design Exhibition, International Brand Week, and Taihu Lake Dance Beauty International Forum, advocating and leading more designers to deepen their services in public cultural services and cultural industries, making the expression of cultural content more colorful, more in line with modern aesthetics and dissemination, and empowering Chinese enterprises to move from Made in China to Created in China, and from Chinese products to Chinese brands.

Dong Dianyi stated that design talents are an important force in building a socialist strong country in the new era. How to cultivate new era designers who possess both artistic literacy and technological knowledge, strong integration ability, are good at innovative problem-solving, adapt to new needs of urban and rural construction and new challenges of industrial development has always been a topic of concern for Design Week. This year's Design Week will collaborate with universities and design institutions to deepen thinking and practice on the transformation of design education methods through activities such as the "Youth Design 100" designer training program, forums on "Design Thinking in the Age of Artificial Intelligence", and the Children's Design Week on developing children's innovative abilities. It will drive and guide young designers to enter the front line of socialist construction, provide opportunities, discover needs, seek opportunities, summarize methods, and form a new model for cultivating design talents.

It is reported that the organizing committee of this design week will fully cooperate with governments, design institutions, universities, and cultural and technological parks at all levels. Based on five major scenarios: design innovation of excellent traditional Chinese culture, coordinated development of the Beijing Tianjin Hebei design industry, creation of new consumption scenes in cultural park design, design empowerment of rural revitalization, and deep integration of design and technology, nearly 1000 various activities of the design week will be arranged in the form of art festivals, exhibitions, expert dialogues, workshops, brand activities, creative markets, and other comprehensive forms. The activity area will exceed 3 million square meters, forming a large-scale innovative practice that is youthful, fashionable, and lifestyle oriented.
