Appreciate the poetry and the beauty of things in simple brushwork
Zhang Daoqia, a poet of the Song Dynasty, wrote in "Lingmei": "There is poetry everywhere, and there is beauty at any time." This means that the poetic style of nature can be seen anytime and anywhere.
Recently, a painting exhibition with the theme of "Wu Hua" was held at Shanghai Youxing Culture and Art Center. The exhibition displays 40 works by young painter Ouyang Jingyi. She uses daily life, natural scenery and urban architecture as themes to understand the relationship between people, nature and art.
Ouyang Jingyi, who graduated from the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts of Shanghai University, loves sketching. "Sketching is an intuitive form that translates nature into art. In the process of sketching, I use my body's perception to fully feel nature." Ouyang Jingyi said.
In her "Quanzhou" series, "Gulangyu" series and "Genoa" series, the scenery and objects break through the limitations of the camera viewfinder, and use a sporty observation method to give the pictures the effect of changing scenery and scattered perspective.
Ouyang Jingyi's "Longxi Journey 3" oil painting on wood 2022
There are many large areas of color in works such as "Fragrant Land" and "Long West Journey", which shows that Ouyang Jingyi uses bold and strong colors. Color blocks such as blue, green and white visually slow down the rhythm of the picture, forming a quiet and melodious atmosphere, while color blocks such as red, orange and yellow make the picture rhythmic and exciting, vividly and vividly shaping the vitality of nature. .
According to Professor Zhang Deming of Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, Shanghai University: These works have a primitive and simple atmosphere and special artistic appeal. "If you have feelings in your heart and scenery in your eyes, there will be scenery everywhere. Naturally, there is poetry everywhere, and there is always beauty."
Ouyang Jingyi "Package" canvas rock 2017
What is different from the natural scenery is the work "Collective Life". This is an interactive work painted on a mirror. Seemingly ordinary daily items such as rows of faucets, plastic bags, toothpaste, etc. become "landscapes" that allow the audience to Recollect or imagine the past collective life immersively.
In the work "Package", there is a huge package tightly wrapped and tied with plastic bags and hemp rope. The contents are nowhere to be seen. The audience can guess through the outer outline, which is full of unknowns and mystery.
Interestingly, in order to restore a more primitive natural state, each of Ouyang Jingyi's works retains traces of the creative process. The stacking and scraping of color and oil, the repeated application of unmixed paint, and the charcoal-black gritty lines criss-crossing between color blocks are looming among the full and moist oil paints, making the audience confused when watching. I can't help but look for these clues and read them.
The exhibition runs from October 14th to October 28th.
