Jointly conducting research with scientists from Russia and other countries, China's 13th Arctic Expedition Team sets sail for the Arctic Ocean | Shanghai | Arctic Ocean
Today, the 13th Chinese Arctic Scientific Expedition, organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources, departed from Shanghai on the "Xuelong 2" to carry out scientific research missions in the Arctic Ocean. The total voyage of this scientific expedition is about 15500 nautical miles, and it is planned to return to Shanghai in late September this year.
It is reported that this scientific expedition will focus on the two major regions of the Pacific sector in the Central North Arctic Ocean and the Mid Galactic Ridge, and will carry out four major tasks: long-term monitoring of key environmental elements, geological and geophysical surveys of the Mid Galactic Ridge, national science and technology projects, and international cooperation; Conduct surveys on the atmosphere, sea ice, ocean, and substrate environment, biological communities and resources, as well as pollutant monitoring, and conduct comprehensive sea ice surveys in ice prone areas at appropriate times.
The Ministry of Natural Resources stated that this inspection will effectively enhance China's capabilities in Arctic environmental protection, Arctic rapid change response, marine pollution assessment, and other areas, and obtain key information and data required for research on mid ocean ridge dynamics. At the same time, Chinese scientists will collaborate with scientists from countries such as Russia and Thailand to conduct relevant research and effectively promote international cooperation in Arctic scientific exploration.
