More than 300 people have been arrested, and Shanghai police have cracked a new type of online shopping fraud case. They have made an appointment with netizens to buy expensive sex products as victims of fraud | Shanghai
Before meeting female netizens offline, it is necessary to purchase designated sexual products online, as this new type of online shopping fraud has harmed many people. Recently, the Pudong Branch of Shanghai Public Security Bureau started with a single case, dug into the criminal gangs behind it, and successfully destroyed 18 online shopping fraud gangs also under the guise of making friends, and captured more than 300 suspect in total.
In early February this year, the Gonglu Police Station of the Pudong Branch of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau received a report of a shopping fraud case. The victim Wang met a female netizen on an online dating platform, communicated for a period of time, and agreed to meet offline. In front of her, a female netizen suggested that Wang go to a designated online shopping mall to purchase specified sex toys. After spending more than 3000 yuan to place an order, Wang also opened the express delivery and took photos to send to the female netizen according to their request. Unexpectedly, the female netizen immediately blocked Wang as soon as she received the picture. Later, Wang wanted to return the item, but the merchant refused the refund due to reasons such as "the packaging has been opened" and "the refund period has expired.". Wang realized that he might have been deceived.
After investigation, the police quickly targeted the suspect, a man named Lin, and arrested him in mid February. According to the investigating agency, Lin used a voice changer to disguise himself as a woman online, and even found criminal tools such as fraudulent scripts in his temporary residence. His criminal techniques were quite professional. The investigators concluded that there may be a larger criminal gang hidden behind Lin.
Through in-depth analysis of the Lin case, the police gradually clarified the organizational structure and role division of the online shopping fraud gang. The investigating agency introduced that this gang organization is divided into four levels: boss, agent, customer service, employee, etc.: agent refers to regional manager, responsible for managing employees and developing offline; Customer service is responsible for statistics of business order data within the group; Employees, also known as "chatbots," are usually men who impersonate women on various social media platforms, using language such as marital discord and the need for comfort to lure victims.
These "chatbots" all have specially compiled scripts. "Once the victim is hooked, the chatbot will further use various lies such as dating, festivals, seeking medical treatment, and selling fruits to lure the victim to a designated online store and purchase sexual products that are more than ten times higher than the market price, in order to deceive the victim's money." The investigators explained that some "chatbots" will further demand the victim to purchase expensive fruits and other products, and after the victim places an order, they will then send "empty package express" to carry out secondary fraud. ".
During the investigation, the police discovered that there was more than one gang engaged in such fraudulent activities and decided to expand the scope of the investigation. After several months of effort, the investigation team has comprehensively mastered the criminal techniques and personnel information of these gangs. Police forces have been dispatched in multiple batches to more than 30 places in Guangxi, Anhui, Fujian, Henan and other provinces, gradually destroying 18 criminal gangs and arresting more than 300 members of the involved gangs, including the boss, with a total amount of money involved exceeding 5.3 million yuan.
At present, 205 people have been criminally detained and 47 have been subjected to criminal coercive measures in accordance with the law. The case is still under further investigation.
