This Fudan medical graduate, who has been doing public welfare for 11 years, will go to the grassroots of rural areas in Shanghai to "learn Shanghai dialect as the first thing" | Public Welfare | Fudan
This summer, Yi Kangqi, a master's graduate of Fudan University Shanghai Medical College in 2023, became an elective student of the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission. At the end of the year, he will go to work at the grassroots level in rural areas of Shanghai. "I have been studying in Shanghai from Hunan for 8 years and have adapted to the dietary habits here. In order to facilitate communication with villagers, the first thing I will do is to learn Shanghai dialect." Yi Kangqi told a reporter from Jiefang Daily's Shangguan News that he is eager to try out his future work, looking forward to "serving the people" at the grassroots level, and also looking forward to making something of himself.
【 Self exploration and expansion in "width" and "depth" 】
When it comes to the connection with public health, Yi Kangqi still remembers it vividly to this day. During the winter vacation of his sophomore year, Professor He Na, the current dean of the School of Public Health at Fudan University, came to Changsha Changjun Middle School where Yi Kangqi was studying to give a lecture. "At that time, Professor He Na focused on the prevention of AIDS. For example, through early intervention, mother to child transmission can be blocked, which made me understand the importance of 'treating the disease before it happens' for the first time." Before that, Yi Kangqi wanted to learn medicine, and listening to this lecture strengthened the idea of learning medicine.
After the 2015 college entrance examination, Yi Kangqi was admitted to the Medical Experimental Class of Fudan University to study Preventive Medicine. Through studying professional courses such as epidemiology and environmental health, he has gained a deeper understanding of the value of public health. From then on, the idea of "preventing diseases and serving more people" was deeply ingrained in Yi Kangqi's heart, becoming his career ideal.
During his 8 years at Fudan University, Yi Kangqi worked hard to explore and expand himself in both breadth and depth, and the school also provided such a platform.
During his undergraduate studies, he conducted interdisciplinary research as a "scholar of hope", exploring the empathy ability of medical students from a humanistic medical perspective, and wrote academic papers as a co first author.
To explore more possibilities, he minored in Accounting at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and was awarded a first-class scholarship. "For me, studying economics is actually a relaxation and has given me a new understanding of the medical profession." At the 2019 International Youth Leaders Financial Summit, he provided advice for the team with a background in medicine and accounting. He simulated an artificial intelligence diagnostic company and successfully obtained "financing" through a "roadshow", standing out from more than 30 teams from around the world and winning the runner up.
During his master's degree, Yi Kangqi participated in the regular follow-up of the construction of the natural population queue in Shanghai, which covered nearly 70000 community residents aged 20-74, providing big data for epidemiological research. Inspired by this, his master's research topic focuses on the dietary health and chronic disease management of community residents.
Over time, doing public welfare has become a habit
Yi Kangqi, who is only 26 years old, has already had 11 years of volunteer experience. When he was in high school, he served as the class leader of the "Changjun Middle School Student Volunteer Team" for three years, sometimes organizing charity sales activities, and sometimes recycling waste batteries in residential areas.
After coming to Fudan for medical treatment, Yi Kangqi began to integrate his preventive medicine major into volunteer service. From his sophomore year to his sophomore year, he regularly visited Johnson&Johnson Garden and Aizhiwang Day Care Center to promote preventive medicine knowledge to community residents. Once, he briefly talked about the basic prevention and early identification of dementia in the elderly. Unexpectedly, community residents were very professional in asking questions during interaction, "This gave me a great touch. Only by knowing enough and delving deep enough can we truly understand and understand.".
During his university years, almost every summer vacation, Yi Kangqi combined teaching support with public health and social practice. When teaching as a volunteer at Guzhen No.3 Middle School in Bengbu City, Anhui Province and Minzu Middle School in Yuni Township, Liupanshui City, Guizhou Province, he offered sex education courses to help adolescent middle school students establish healthy sexual concepts through knowledge competitions. He also conducted in-depth research on medical resources and public health habits in the local area. "Some township hospitals are also equipped with hardware such as CT machines, but there are still relatively few people who can operate the equipment and read videos, and we need to enhance our soft power."
After the COVID-19 broke out, the school Youth League Committee organized online counseling for the children of anti epidemic medical workers. Yi Kangqi took the lead in signing up and paired up with a first grade child. During the period of campus closure management, he participated in campus epidemiological investigations and became one of the first volunteers to participate in nucleic acid testing and sampling. "I was a bit afraid of wearing a 'big white' for nucleic acid testing for the first time, but after scientific and standardized disinfection, I no longer felt afraid."
Why have you always insisted on doing public welfare? Yi Kangqi told the Jiefang Daily Shangguan News reporter that doing public welfare can spread professional knowledge to more people. This is the original intention of preventive medicine, and at the same time, it enhances one's professional ability. He also met many like-minded friends, which was very rewarding. Over time, doing public welfare has become a habit.
[Plan to connect with Fudan resources and do something practical for the villagers]
During his time in school, Yi Kangqi served as a member of the Presidium of the Student Union of Fudan University and the Director of the Maple Forest Work Committee of the Graduate Union, which honed his abilities during his service. He has received honors such as the China Telecom Scholarship from the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the National Scholarship, the Shanghai Scholarship, and the Fudan University Outstanding Student Cadre Model with excellent academic performance.
Starting from last autumn's recruitment, he began preparing for the selection of Shanghai's selected candidates. His goal is very clear, determined to serve the population and the Healthy China strategy, and to use his professional knowledge to introduce and implement service policies on this vast stage. For graduates who are interested in becoming transfer candidates, the Graduate Work Department of the Party Committee and the Medical Work Department of Fudan University will issue a "memorandum" every week. The official account of the Fudan Grassroots Employment Service Association will promptly forward various application information. The career development office of Fudan Shangyi "Weifeng" will also actively coordinate multiple resources in accordance with the current employment situation, organize a number of activities such as policy lectures on transfer candidates, graduate experience sharing exchange meetings, and promote higher quality and full employment of medical students.
Now, Yi Kangqi, who is about to go to the grassroots, has started planning to connect the free consultation activities of the Fudan Shanghai Medical Doctor Medical Service Team to grassroots townships, and do something practical for the villagers to the best of his ability.
