Sari Ai comes from Belgium and is currently a general practitioner at Shanghai Hemujia Hospital. He is also the director of the hospital's general practice training program. Since arriving at Shanghai United Family Hospital in 2006, she has treated countless patients from Shanghai and around the world, and actively devoted herself to the cultivation of general practitioners, conveying the educational concept of "teaching people to fish" to more outstanding young doctors.
Over the past decade, Sareai has trained more than ten general practitioners who can diagnose and treat patients of all ages and are enthusiastic about basic medical care. While providing high-level medical treatment for patients, she also fully integrates into the urban development of Shanghai, loves Shanghai, promotes Shanghai, and strives to become a positive link between Shanghai and the international community.
Conveying the professional ideal of "teaching people to fish"
Sari Ai was born into a medical family. In her childhood, she followed her parents to Africa and witnessed the process of her parents dedicating themselves to providing medical treatment for patients from impoverished families. It is precisely this childhood experience that made her aspire to become a "global citizen" and improve the quality of life for more people through medical treatment. In 2006, Sari Ai came to Shanghai and brought her medical dream to this city, which has been rooted for 17 years.
In her work, Sari Ai feels that one person's power is always limited, and China's general practice requires more people to participate. At the same time, she also believes that Shanghai should have and can cultivate the world's most outstanding general practitioner talents, and provide world-class medical security for patients at home and abroad.
With this belief in mind, in 2013, Sari Ai began to participate in and promote the training program for general practitioners. By recruiting excellent local doctors and receiving training from doctors from different countries around the world, local medical talents are ultimately able to become bilingual general practitioners who are versatile in both internal and external medicine, capable of diagnosing and treating women and children, from skin to organs to psychology, and actively participating in discussions and exchanges at international conferences.
In the eyes of colleagues, Sari Ai is like a tree planter, sowing seeds one by one, carefully nurturing and teaching. In the past five years, dozens of doctors have graduated with scores exceeding the average score of the American Medical Student Practice Examination after receiving her training. At present, these outstanding talents have spread to community hospitals, public hospitals, and private hospitals in Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou, providing medical services for all ages and populations. Many graduates have also become mentors after starting their careers, continuing Sari Ai's career ideal of "teaching people to fish".
After accumulating a certain amount of teaching experience, Sari Ai found that many doctors are skilled in their profession but do not know how to better impart knowledge and experience to students. Teaching cannot only be about learning, but also about teaching. So she began to combine university courses from countries such as the United States and Canada to organize specialized training on mentor skills.
Under her leadership, the Harmony Family General Practice Medical Training Program has become a partner with Shanghai Tongji University School of Medicine and Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine to strengthen the clinical practice ability training of medical students, organize mentor courses, and jointly explore the feasibility of teaching through methods such as "simulation consultation room", "observation consultation room", and "video review".
The "life committee" of the international community
When Sari Ai arrived in Shanghai, it was a period of rapid economic, social, and cultural development. As more and more outstanding talents gather in Shanghai from all over the world, their families also come together, giving rise to more diverse medical assistance needs.
As a general practitioner who is proficient in four languages including English, French, Spanish, and Dutch, Sari Ai not only excels in medical skills but also possesses strong empathy. As a family doctor of all ages and in all aspects, she not only provides high-quality, patient-centered medical services to patients, but also actively introduces Shanghai to foreigners, helping "new Shanghai people" from all over the world integrate into Shanghai.

Unconsciously, Sari Ai has become a "life committee member" in the Shanghai international community. Sarai herself is a mother of four children. Her children were all born in China, and she is well aware of the importance of a sound medical system for health. Therefore, in his spare time, Sari Ai often leads specialized training doctors from the hospital to go deep into the community, deliver medication to elderly people living alone, train workers in cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques, conduct physical examinations for children in welfare institutions, and provide rehabilitation support for children with intellectual disabilities.
When the COVID-19 broke out, Sarui and his medical colleagues stuck to the front line of fever clinic day and night to cure the disease and save the people. During the epidemic, she also actively participated in community services, helping the community to explain policies to foreigners in a timely manner, soothe emotions, and solve everyone's living difficulties.
