October 16-22 this year is "China Pain Relief Week", with the theme of "Improving Comprehensive Pain Treatment Capabilities". Pain is the third major health problem in my country, affecting the public's physical and mental health. Recently, the "Raise Prevention Awareness and Stay Away from Severe Pain" related activities launched by "Doctor's News" and jointly supported by China Elderly Care Association and People's Daily Health Client announced the first The "Research Report on Pain in Five Regions in my country" disclosed five findings and seven misunderstandings about pain among Chinese residents. Experts emphasized that there is no need to endure pain all the time. You should seek help from a doctor in time and standardize treatment and management as soon as possible.
This report invited expert teams from five regions in China to conduct interviews on topics such as common pain in middle-aged and elderly people, special cases of pain, cognitive misunderstandings of pain, etc., combined with the diagnosis and treatment conditions of each outpatient clinic, and compiled a report.
The report found that: neck, shoulder, waist and leg pain, neuralgia, cancer pain, and soft tissue pain are common chronic pains in outpatient clinics; herpes-related pain is more common, and the proportion of such diseases in pain-related outpatient clinics in different hospitals is different; middle-aged patients with basic diseases The elderly have a higher risk of pain; middle-aged and elderly people with chronic diseases have an increased risk of herpes zoster-related pain; the public has many misunderstandings about pain and needs to improve their awareness of correct disease prevention and pain management.
The report also revealed seven major misunderstandings about pain among Chinese residents. Specifically: pain is not a disease, it will pass if you endure it; pain is innate and unavoidable; painkillers are poisonous, so you must not take them; the longer you endure pain, your ability to endure pain will also increase; take painkillers If the medicine is not painful, it will cover up the cause of the pain; the pain can be 100% eliminated through treatment; if the nerves causing the pain are "burned", there will be no pain.
In response to the above misunderstandings, Professor Fan Bifa from the Pain Department of China-Japan Friendship Hospital explained: Pain is a distress signal sent by the body, and it is a protective mechanism for the human body to avoid injury and detect hidden dangers in time. Faced with long-term severe pain, most people tend to fall into cognitive misunderstandings. In fact, if you can endure hardship, there is no need to endure pain, let alone live with pain for a long time. Once pain occurs, seek medical help promptly and standardize treatment and management as soon as possible. Experts emphasize that pain treatment takes a certain amount of time, and not all pain can completely disappear once treated. Pain doctors hope to work with patients and their families to help patients avoid or relieve pain and improve their quality of life after treatment.
Experts at the meeting also pointed out that the occurrence of many pains is related to prolonged sitting and standing, bad posture, excessive bending, lack of exercise, dietary structure, mental health and other daily life behaviors, as well as aging of body functions. Managing these inducements can improve pain. For example, maintaining a good mood, ensuring a regular schedule and sleep, and eating a balanced diet can prevent tension headaches and migraines to a large extent; changing bad posture and properly exercising the muscle strength of the lower back can prevent lower back pain; actively supplementing calcium Vitamin D and vitamin D can help treat osteoporosis and prevent or delay the progression of arthritis. For middle-aged and elderly people with underlying chronic diseases, vaccinations can also be used to prevent common infectious diseases in advance and reduce the risk of pain caused by comorbid chronic diseases.
Yu Hua, vice president and secretary-general of the China Elderly Care Association, said: "Healthy China 2030 Planning Outline" emphasizes the need to strengthen health guidance and comprehensive intervention for common and chronic diseases in the elderly, and strengthen health management of the elderly. Pain, as one of the key factors hindering the health of the elderly, is related to the dignity and happiness of the elderly. Jiang, the China Elderly Care Association, joins hands with many parties to promote the construction of comprehensive pain care capabilities to help middle-aged and elderly people stay away from pain as soon as possible and enjoy health.
