How is Yu Shi's new film?, "Welcome to Me" Shanghai Roadshow

Release time:Jul 02, 2024 15:48 PM

On July 2, the Grandview Cinema was packed with young audiences inside and outside. The Shanghai roadshow of the movie "Welcome to My Side", directed by Song Haolin, written by Miao Qian and Song Haolin, and starring Yu Shi and Wang Yinglu, was held in the Thousand-person Hall. During the movie, there were constant laughter and cheers in the theater. After the screening, Yu Shi, Wang Yinglu and other main creators walked onto the stage, and the audience screamed like thunder. The heat outside was not as hot as the enthusiasm of young fans for this comedy romance starring idol actors.

"Welcome to Me" tells the story of Chen Xiaozhou who suffered an accident after a breakup, which led to strange "hallucinations". Whenever he saw yellow, the people around him turned into rubber ducks that quacked, which brought huge obstacles to his work and life. In an accidental collaboration, Chen Xiaozhou met Feng Jianan, a food UP host, and found that Feng Jianan could relieve his "hallucinations", so he plucked up the courage to pursue her, and the two began a hilarious interactive journey.

The film has a good performance in the comedy part. Chen Xiaozhou's "hallucination" creates dense laughter in the first half. In order to stay normal, he tries his best to avoid seeing yellow things, but there are always various yellow things that break into his sight, making him suddenly "abnormal". For example, the yellow helmet of the takeaway driver, the shared bicycle, the yellow background on the PPT, the yellow packaging on the goods, etc. This funny way of finding funny points in life seems unconventional in the comedy film, and it also makes the plot develop to the point where Chen Xiaozhou and Feng Jianan are together. It seems difficult to finally get a "normal life", which makes people can't help but be moved.

Like many commercial romance films nowadays, "Welcome to Me" combines love and fantasy, bringing a lot of novelty and highlights. The reversal at the end also adds suspense to the film.

"Welcome to Me" has a deep connection with Shanghai, and many scenes were shot in Shanghai. "We were lucky to find a beautiful house to shoot Feng Jianan's studio," said director Song Haolin. When they first entered the house, they found a very loving grandfather and grandmother living in it. Their photos from falling in love, getting married, having children to quietly growing old were hung in every corner of the house. "Looking at those photos, I couldn't help but wonder what they went through from young to old. In such a loving room, we shot a very important scene in this movie. I am very grateful to this house and the people who live in it."

There is a scene in the film that touched the audience. When the filming was finished, Chen Xiaozhou, Feng Jianan and the young people in the studio had a meal together and sang "I Want You". The song floated across the night sky of the city, and the prosperous scene of Shanghai Bund was "refreshed" on the screen again. In addition to the familiar "Lujiazui three-piece set", you can also see some new red neon elements on the top of some skyscrapers. Although the song was almost "ghostly howling" at the end, the authenticity in the voice made people feel the youthful vitality of young people and the entire city.

Yu Shi revealed that this scene was filmed on the day when the studio scene was finished. "We actually sang for half an hour before filming, singing many songs, and finally the director carefully selected "I Want You". It was not until the day before the Shanghai roadshow that Yu Shi watched the finished film and found that all the singing parts were recorded on the spot, which is rare in film and television works. "Later, I discussed with the director whether to record it again for safety. The director also liked the feeling of the scene, so he finally used the scene. We did not paste a very perfect and smooth sound source into the film, but hoped to really put the cheerful emotions of young people after drinking into it, giving the audience a different feeling." At the roadshow, he played "I Want You" again, calling on the audience to go to the theater to watch the film when it was officially released on July 5.

Today, Yu Shi and Wang Yinglu have become popular actors with movies such as "The First Part of the Conferred Gods" and the web drama "Under the Alien", but these works had not yet been released when "Welcome to Me" was filmed. "I'm not a director who knows how to 'speculate in stocks'," he said with a smile when an audience member praised Song Haolin's "buying stocks" ability in selecting actors. "The screenwriter and I both uphold the traditional concept of creation. When we meet an excellent actor, we think he is suitable and has potential, and we don't think about anything more." He recalled that when they first met, Yu Shi had just finished playing basketball, wearing a baseball cap on his head, his body was soaked with sweat, and he exuded a lively and vigorous vitality, while Wang Yinglu made him feel an innate quiet aura. "When creators meet excellent people, they can't take their eyes off them. I felt at the time that although they were not stars yet, they must be good actors."
