Some troops may be transferred to the north. Israeli Prime Minister: The "fierce fighting phase" in the Gaza Strip is coming to an end
Jerusalem, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in an interview with Israeli media on June 23 that the "fierce fighting phase" between the Israeli army and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement in the Gaza Strip is "very close to the end."
In an interview with Israel's Channel 14, Netanyahu said that the Israeli army is about to end the "fierce fighting phase" with Hamas in the entire Gaza Strip, including the southern city of Rafah. But he stressed that this does not mean that Israel will end its military operations in the Gaza Strip, and the Israeli army will continue to attack Hamas targets.
Netanyahu said that after the Israeli army ends the "fierce fighting phase" in the Gaza Strip, it may transfer some of its troops to the northern border area with Lebanon to achieve defensive purposes and allow evacuated Israeli residents to return home as soon as possible. He said, "If possible, we will do this through diplomatic means. If not, we will use another way."
Since the outbreak of a new round of Israeli-Palestinian conflict on October 7 last year, Hezbollah in Lebanon has launched attacks on northern Israel from time to time, and the Israeli army has retaliated with air strikes and shelling of targets in southern Lebanon. The conflict between the two sides on the Lebanese-Israeli border has continued to this day, and a large number of residents in the southern Lebanese and northern border areas have been evacuated. The Israeli Defense Forces issued a statement on the 18th of this month saying that in order to respond to the tension on the Israeli-Lebanese border, the Israeli military has approved a plan to launch military operations in Lebanon.
