On the afternoon of June 19, General Secretary Xi Jinping came here for the first stop of his inspection tour in Ningxia, where he learned about the community's efforts to play the role of grassroots party organizations, optimize services that are convenient and beneficial to the people, and promote exchanges and integration among people of all ethnic groups.

The General Secretary stressed that community party organizations are the nerve endings of the party's connection with the grassroots masses and should play a leading role in the community. Once the community party organizations are well built and strengthened, community work will have a backbone. The Great Wall Garden Community is a large multi-ethnic community, with Hui, Manchu, Mongolian, Tibetan and other ethnic groups accounting for 38% of the total population.

Seeing that people of all ethnic groups live in harmony and happily, the General Secretary said happily: "National unity is very important. Our 56 ethnic groups must hold together like pomegranate seeds."

The metaphor of "pomegranate seeds" was mentioned by General Secretary Xi Jinping when he heard it from a Uyghur fellow during his inspection in Xinjiang in 2014. Eight years later, the General Secretary visited Xinjiang again. During the inspection, the General Secretary told everyone that "we should be like pomegranate seeds." Before he finished speaking, the people at the scene answered loudly and unanimously: "Hold each other tightly."

In Guyuanxiang Community in Tianshan District, Urumqi, ethnic minorities account for more than 95% of the residents. During his inspection of this community, the General Secretary said to the residents: "We are all down-to-earth, achieving one goal after another, solving one problem after another, and accumulating small victories into big ones. We have determination and resilience. The 56 ethnic groups are united as one, working together and making great efforts. If we continue to work hard like this, we will definitely get better."

In recent years, all 28 ethnic minorities with small populations have lifted themselves out of poverty. From poverty and backwardness to comprehensive well-off and then to common prosperity, the lives of ethnic minorities are getting better and better.

As the basic unit of grassroots self-government and the grassroots foundation of the national governance system, communities play a unique and important role in promoting exchanges and integration among people of all ethnic groups. Building multi-ethnic communities is one of the important contents of the General Secretary's inspection of communities in ethnic minority areas.

On December 14 last year, General Secretary Xi Jinping, who was inspecting Guangxi, came to Panlong Community in Liangqing District, Nanning City. This is a multi-ethnic community with a permanent population of about 27,000. Brothers and sisters from more than 10 ethnic groups live and work here, and ethnic minorities account for about 30% of the population.
